There is no better place in West Des Moines for a business meal, romantic getaway, or after work drink. After a string of long and frustrating flights you arrive at The Rewind hotel. Still on my Italian lunch search for the tastiest, well seasoned and belly pleasing entrees. I’ve tried to order what some say is the best house dish to compare—for that dish should rock your world. Alissa is my server—very pleasant young lady. I’m putting my order in for the stuffed mushrooms and Johnny’s Minnelli. The mushrooms really will have to be great in comparison to my last Italian venture. We went to the restaurant for lunch and were pleasantly surprised to be seated right away. Our server took our drink orders, but it took a while for them to arrive at our table. My Moscow Mule had a good kick and was delicious. I had ordered a salad with dressing on the side, but when our orders finally came, my salad was already dressed. The server tried to fix the mistake, but it took too long, so I ended up eating the salad as it was. We were in a hurry. Unfortunately, the steak tips in my salad were cold and tough. We had a reservation for a party of 13 at 7:00pm on a bustling Saturday night. We arrived a few minutes early and our table was already set up. Our server was very friendly and provided us with excellent service. Our drinks and food arrived promptly and were all delicious. We would definitely return to this restaurant in the future. This was my first visit to Johnny's restaurant. The food was excellent, although on the pricier side. The service was subpar, but I understood it might have been due to a lack of staff. I paid $13 for an old fashioned cocktail and $30 for my pasta after tax. Overall, the restaurant gave off a vibe similar to a fancy Applebee's.
It looked like a slow night, however it took over an hour before our entrees were received. The only excuse given was due to a banquet at the time. It also took awhile before our entrees order was even taken. We had eaten the appetizer and had a couple drinks before our waitress asked if we were ready.
