the only Indian buffet opened in Oakland/Berkeley! 8 rotating feeds. 2 vegan, 1 vegetarian, basmati rice, vegan paprika and a few dishes w/ animal meat. vegetarian desserts including gulab, kheer/halwa soft-serve kuhpus. older men's server is vegan and assures me the vegan dishes are vegan! always 2 or 3 with pakoras. I can't believe that I've lived in berkeley for 3 years and has never been in this place! Hubby saw that they had a lunch buffet that he said it was unusual. when we talked to the owner, he confirmed that they had lunch every day! let me tell them that I was so happy to find this place! I love eating! I'm vegetarian, so I can't talk for the few meat dishes that were there. the wiper tikka masala was delicious rich, thick, creamy, perfect taste. I also loved the baingan bharta (eggplant,) which I usually do not place a fan of others. everything else was good. they offer free a lot of fresh hot naan (you can choose either simple or garlic without a price.) the owner was a very nice person. and...

my man and I had tried jotmahal a few days ago and were so impressed that we asked our son and our daughter-in-law to accompany us next time. it was all we had predicted: very good eating, moderate prices and very attentive service. we had to eat that was not excessively hot (spicy, but not too hot) and interesting. the rice was like a pilger: each corn was separated and it was not so tender. we've eaten three big bowls for us four. the vegetarian disc cleaner was a mixture of spinach and scavenger green that everyone enjoyed. the lammkur was very tender and the chicken masala was rich, but not oily. we had no place for dessert.

This restaurant is still finding its way. We went for lunch; there aren 't lunch specials but they add complimentary naan to the order. The food is good but it could reach greater heights if the dishes had more layered flavors and spiced as if they were serving their family. Spicing and preparation for American tastes wastes the chef 's talent. It isn 't about hot so much as teasing out the complex tastes that come from preparing dishes according to traditional methods. It will be worth it to check on their progress a few months from now.

I always get chana masala at a new Indian place as my judgment method, this is chana masala is a 7/10. would later try other dinge again! updated by previous review on 2021-10-14
