I don't get out to Hilliard often, but a while back I was in the area and stopped here for a quick bite to eat with a friend. I had never tried Afghan food before and was excited to try something new. We started with the Bolani/Samosa and I'm so glad we did because they were delicious. Stuffed with potatoes, scallions, and cilantro, these turnovers were crispy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. I'm also a sucker for sauces and the green dip it came with was out of this world! My friend also tried the mantu which are like Afghan style potstickers. The salad accompanying the chicken chapli kabob (which is two thin patties not a skewer-kabob) had a homemade creamy dill dressing on the side that was light, bright, and not greasy. The menu was straightforward and easy to navigate, so I decided to order the tikka kebab along with a garden salad and rice. I was so eager to dig in that I ended up eating in my car before heading home. The food was fresh and served hot. The chicken was incredibly tender, juicy, and packed with flavor—honestly, the best I've ever had. The garden salad was also fresh, with a spring mix that tasted crisp and not at all wilted or watered down. This restaurant is a bit out of the way for me, but remembered seeing the reviews on Yelp, so ordered take out while in the Hilliard area. We ordered the bolani (potato stuffed samosas in the shape of empanadas with mint sauce) and mantu (Afghan version of steamed potstickers stuffed with beef and I think it was ricotta, then topped with lentils) for apps. The mantu was really good and felt kind of like little lasagna bites. For entrees we got the chicken tikka legs and chicken tikka kabob. This place is so great. The food is great. It's consistent which is a big deal for us, we know what we want and are the type who always order the same thing. I will say, I have developed such a trust with this place I took the waitress's advice and ordered something I've never tried before. The service is also great. It's a simple restaurant, with counter service, but the employees we see normally are so friendly and helpful. Even now with Covid precautions limiting to only take out orders, they still provide friendly and helpful service over the phone.
This is the best food I've ever had in Columbus! I ordered the MANTU and the chicken kebab, and calling it delicious would be an understatement. I had the food yesterday, and I can't stop thinking about it. I opted for delivery since I live far away, but the food arrived fresh and warm. I really appreciate that this restaurant doesn't compromise on quality. The Mantu is truly exquisite. I've tried food from many places, but this is definitely my favorite. I have a feeling this might become my go-to restaurant in the Midwest!
What a hidden gem in Hilliard. I wish I had known this was right in my neighborhood much sooner. I will be a regular customer now for sure. Ordered chicken kabob salad, lamb kabob salad, and mantu (ground beef dumplings with lentils) appetizer for takeout. The food was full of herbs and spices and amazing flavors. The two sauces that it came with were incredible. I wish I knew the secret recipe for the white sauce, so I could make it at home. Already planning my next meal here.
What a hidden gem in Hilliard! Currently offering carryout only due to COVID-19, I tried the lamb pita meal and it did not disappoint. The lamb was expertly spiced and cooked to perfection. The prices are quite reasonable for such high-quality cuts of meat. The fries were decent, but I highly recommend ordering the lamb in any dish—it’s definitely a treat worth trying!
