Kampai Japanese Steak House

This was our first visit to Kampai and it was wonderful. The ambience is the real Tokyo or Kyoto steak house with Hibachi, traditional Japanese and sushi style. The staff (female) wears a colorful kimono dress and the males wear black vests and black pants. The hibachi meals are shared with other guests and reservations for these are highly recommended to ensure that your party is able to be together and the show with the meal preparation is always fun and entertaining. The traditional Japanese and sushi dishes are amazing and very skillfully prepared. There is also a very diverse selection of wines, cocktails and beers, and from whom you can choose. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of food and the portions are generous. This is a family-friendly environment, but there are many private alcoves available to have a romantic dinner for two without problems. There are many parking spaces and the staff was very friendly and attentive. They take cash and cards to meet the needs of their males. We will come back absolutely because our experience was beyond words and recommend this hidden gem to everyone.

I had dinner in Kampai during the visit of friends in Vestal, and we had an AMAZING Omakase experience. I wish I have taken more photos of our food to do the meal justice, but these few have to be enough. The head sushi cook was super friendly, attentive to our tastes (which was only to go on a delicious adventure! and tasted beautifully designed dishes. The fish was fresh and hearty (no farewell here! and the simple vanilla Ice dessert was made decadent with gold sugar decoration and fruit details. In addition to the 12 of 10 dishes, Kampai's ambience is fantastic. While we enjoyed our intimate dinner experience in the Sushi Bar, there were larger groups that enjoy the Hibachi tables, something I would like to try on my next visit. I also estimated that the restaurant manager took the time to check us what was very thoughtful, especially because it was a busy night. I understand why Kampai has been in operation since 1975 and I look forward to my next visit!

Nine of us have eaten here Monday night for my daughter's birthday. Food and entertainment were generally great. A good time was from everyone. Win only four stars for two reasons. Number one, my wife clearly threw the shrimps in the mouth, but the cook went ahead and hit one out of the face anyway. It hit her glasses (thanks to wearing glasses, so she didn't hit her eye) and made a big greasy blow on the lens. Not cool!! Number two, we ordered a sushi roll for our appetizer. I ordered the trap Angel to expect some heat with the Habanero, but there were none. Eight were delivered shortly. Mine came when my dinner came. Not sure what happened there, but then I was ready for my dinner and didn't need it, so it was a bit of waste. We rarely saw the Gal who took our order because they used other people to get the orders out so I had no chance to ask them where my sushi role was.

Cannot best the hibachi style dining! Great food and a whole'lotta fun too! The one and only down fall is the fact that it is always very, VERY hot in there. Would be nice to have some better air circulation especially when sitting around the hibachi! Thanks!

The best sushi hands down. The staff is amazing! Very attentive and super friendly. I always like to come here.
