The brisket was moist and tender and delicious, and the chopped (pulled) pork was good. The longhorn stew, an unusual side in this part of the country, was very good. The sauce was complex and well-made. The staff was friendly and professional, considering I came in around closing time, and I tipped them. I would definitely venture back. Overall, a solid deal for the money. My only small suggestion would be to install a sneeze guard at the counter area if you’re going to slice brisket near where customers order.
This little place a mile from I-64 in Shelbyville, KY is wonderful! The smells inside are just the beginning of the good experience. We ordered and paid at the counter and the nice young men carved the slab of ribs and brisket right there. Sauces on the table because this is real Southern bbq! Dinners come with 2 sides: the Longhorn Stew is not to be missed (and pie can be a side)! Worth the trip!
Delicious food and authentic atmosphere. Ken-Tex dispenses with the frilly BBQ decor in favor of focusing on really really good food. The brisket was delicious and sliced right in front of me. They offer by-the-pound and family meals as well as chicken, pork, and brisket sandwiches. They 've been in business for many years and their commitment to quality food shows.
