What a rather strange but quite lovely evening my wife and I had here just a week ago.We have been travelling to Dresden from the U.K. each March for the last 10 years. It is a city that is special to us and one we both love.Although we stay at the Kempinski hotel in the old centre of the town, we do try to catch a tram some days and travel out into the outlying districts of the old town.We first discovered Kleinerts last year when we walked around this lovely part of Dresden, discovered a local food market that weekend and decided to try this place that lies right next to the River Elbe. We enjoyed our lunch last year and decided to have lunch here again when we visited this month. It was a typical Dresden winters day. Very wet and pretty chilly. We were served by Mr. Kleinert and we both had a delicious creamy garlic soup with freshly baked bread. As it was raining hard we sat for an hour or so with a glass of red wine.We asked Mr.Kleinert if he served dinner in the evening and he said he did....so we decided to reserve a table for that evening. We returned by cab at 7.30 pm that evening to find that we were the only diners there....for the entire evening !Sooo....we had our own personal chef and waitress !....a unique experience for the two of us and a first in 47 years of marriage.I had a delicious local rib-eye steak served with a jus, new potatoes and green beans. My wife ordered a local white fish with green vegetables. Both dishes were superb. We also tried a local German red wineThe place was warm and cosy and we enjoyed our evening. We only wish there had been a few more people there to enjoy it too !We intend to return next year.
