the premises are imposing, underground than was the old town's cereal deposit. majestic and beautiful, well tidy and decorated and with menu and very good wine letters. It is very large, which does not favor intimacy, and at dinner lighting is very thin, which I do not like very much. I prefer enough light to better examine the menu (and prices) without resorting to one of the thousand and so many utilities of the smartphone. Excellent location, easy to find, right in the heart of the historic center. Recommended booking. Well elaborate and quality dishes, but the service is rather slow and very impersonal. Swiss but bearable prices.

The Kornhauskeller is a basement level, that was originally designed to store grain. The ceilings are vaulted, and have been decorated with murals from the arts and crafts period. The murals present a variety of themes, with touches to make them look older. (Are those squirrels with very long ears.?) There is also a giant wine tun at the end. The food was decent, the service pretty good, and the conviviality infectious. The restrooms are on the balcony level, where you can observe your fellow diners. This is also the level with a nice bar.

I've eaten here a couple of times, usually for lunch and the menu always has a good selection and variety of dishes, including pasta dishes with a gluten-free option. I recently had a very good risotto. The indoor space can get a bit loud so if you want to have a conversation ask for a table by a wall or in a corner. It's also a nice place to have a drink or meal outside. Dining out in Switzerland is generally not cheap compared to the rest of Europe, but the Kornhaus Café offers good value for money.

Tour book recommended We stopped for a quick lunch but no one moves quick in this restaurant! Can't fault the food! It's is good but is expensive and the service is very slow
