This review is based on my experiences over the past 21 years (that is not a typographical error I first went to Kostas in Jan 1991). Over the years the place has gotten larger (in fact it is about 100 meters up the street...from the original location). Elder son Stavros took over from parents Anna and Kostas a few years ago, but the specialties are every bit as good, if not better, than ever. The naturalized Swiss Ghiatras family originally came from Zakynthos in the 1980s (maybe the 1970s, I don 't recall) but you 'll swear they arrived yesterday. Kostas der Grieche is a nice quiet restaurant serving great tasting food the father/son combo running the place are very friendly and also fairly chatty. The only drawback is that we went there with a group of seven and it took them about 5 10...minutes to bring out all the food as each plate was (it seemed) prepared only after the previous one had been brought to the table with that we were a little worried that the food on the first plate delivered might get cold before the last guest in the group would even get his food. (At the time, there were only 3 other guests most tables still empty; so it wasn't due to the place being busy... Still, I'll certainly return as the food was great and t...
In terms of food quality, this is an ok greek restaurant (for a small city like St-Gallen, better than not having one). Rest assured it won’t be the best greek food you’d ever had, nor the worst for sure. The staff (owners) super friendly and great service. The only really bad note was the wine. We ordered 2 half liter’s carafes of the house wine, not in bottles, nothing fancy. We paid chf 40 for each of them, that is about $80 in total. Our bad that we didn’t ask for the price in advance, but even for Switzerland we felt they ‘robbed’ us. Never again.
Lovely atmosphere, great food, great host, good times! Ate there for the first time last night and cannot say enough about the place. So full we could not eat all the food Stavros brought out to us! I have to say I have not eaten...at a better restaurant in Switzerland. Stavros treats you like family, suggesting meals he thinks you might like. He speaks so many languages, I could not keep up. We are already talking about going back in the next week or so for a birthday celebration. What great atmosphere. I felt like I should be dancing! Yasou!!

Kostas der Grieche is the perfect Greek restaurant in St Gallen! The atmosphere is very familiar and entertaining, the service is good and friendly and most importantly the food is great! I personally love the Gyros plate here but I really plan on trying new dishes from the menu.I will definitely come back and I strongly recommend it to all the Greek food lovers!
I talked to a colleague here. we couldn't decide what to order so kostas took care of this detail himself! After everyone had a huge classic giros, we almost couldn't fit through the door on the way out. I don't have much experience. with the Greek cuisine, but that was just delicious!
on the look for a good, cheap dinner we were fed at kostas...a very (sometimes too much) family farm...the chef kept us during eating with small anecdotes and swanks...beloved was favorably just a Kefkes-Pita and a fanta.
Visited Kostas during a businesstrip. Excellent Choice. Very friendly Innkeeper and delicious greek food with a nice selection of greek wine.
