Koji London is an underrated Japanese restaurant that has improved each and every time I have visited. Whether your looking to explore the magnificent range of cocktails and vintage Japanese whiskeys or perch over at the sushi bar for an intimate dining experience Koji has a setting for everyone. The dining room out back is tastefully decorated with a refined modern feeling. As far as the food goes its on par with some of the top Japanese restaurants I have visited around the London. The sushi sashimi and cold appetisers are what I would recommend as the quality of fish, preparation and presentation make for truly delectable dishes. The sushi was not any better than what you would find at Texco's. However, the worst part of the experience was the service. The entire team, including the bar attendants, waiters, and the manager, were too busy drinking at the bar. Despite the freezing temperature and snow outside, the customers had to keep their coats on because the air conditioner was blasting cold air. When we asked for it to be turned off, we were given some unclear explanation about the windows being open. It seemed like the staff was more interested in socializing amongst themselves, indicating that it might be a good place to work but not so great for a night out.
Despite the decent quality of the food, the service at this restaurant was extremely poor. We had to ask three times for soy sauce, which encapsulates the overall experience. The staff appeared inexperienced and overwhelmed by the number of customers. In addition to the lackluster service, the server and manager were rude when addressing our concerns. To top it off, we were charged an extra $50 for an Open Food Charge that we did not authorize or receive an explanation for. This was the first time I have felt the need to describe a restaurant's staff as entitled.
Finally a decent sushi restaurant with great ambiance and not too ridiculous in price. Restaurant is on New Kings Road and reservations are rarely needed. Closed on Monday. They are very accommodating to children. I highly recommend the fresh wasabi at least once. They provide a brush to brush the soy sauce onto the fish. Their selection of sushi rolls is not that extensive but the quality of fish they offer more than makes up for it. Highly recommend. Réservez une table maintenant
Koji is fabulous for a date night, with great food and tasty cocktails to suit all palates. If you can, request a seat at the bar on Dean’s station. He is a charismatic and skilled bar tender who will chat away, teaching you about the nuances of your food and drink. Great experience.
