This is a small traditionally decorated restaurant. Between the atmosphere and the photos online you are given the impression it's going to be a premium dining experience on par with some of the better local no nonsense Japanese spots especially given the prices. It is not. The simplest and hallmark of any Japanese place , the California rolls, had overcooked mushy rice that was pressed so tightly it was dense and chewy. A harbinger of what was to follow. Gyoza was over cooked being nearly blackened on one side and falling apart on the other , the filling dry and tasting off. An order of fried rice had tiny overcooked shrunken shrimp with consistency frozen precooked shrimp. The only flavor...
Oddly, I have been eating at the place for about 3 years on and off and it used to be excellent but after the sale and change in ownership things really went down hill. They were short staffed alot of times and service was lousy. The sushi quality was quite poor and I have eaten in alot of Japanese rests, as this was probably done to save cost. Also the last time I went- actually about 4 times within a 3 week period they were closed for 3 weeks-who knows why, sort of odd but for the best Kotobuki is still the best place to go and worth the price. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
