La Balette - Réserver une table

Nous avons rendu visite à des amis comme cadeau d'anniversaire. Nous sommes tous très passionnés par la nourriture et nous avons collectivement visité des dizaines et des dizaines de restaurants étoilés Michelin, dont un certain nombre de restaurants 2 et 3 étoiles. Je ne peux que supposer que nous n'avons pas eu de chance car les mauvaises critiques semblent relativement rares pour ce restaurant. Nous avons trouvé le concept de menu surprise très frustrant car ils ne proposaient pas de vol de vins et ne vous disaient pas ce que vous alliez manger, il était donc impossible de commander des vins. You cannot beat Collioure, so a visit to La Balette was a must. The first thing that struck us as odd was the lack of a written menu. Their strap line was that it was a surprise( not wrong there). They do not do a wine flight which again was poor. The canapés were reasonably good but nothing to write home about. The wine list is fairly extensive but when you look at the prices for local wines the markup is 300-400%. Considering they would get them at ex-cave prices and are all from within a radius of 5 miles, they are being greedy. The courses then started to arrive. They have always had great food here, and we have had many memorable meals here over the last 20 years. When we got our first course it was obvious there was a change for the better. First what it is not: For inexperienced diners, Vegans, Gluten freebies or children. f you just want food, go somewhere else. This is an experience, like going to the theater. You do not get to choose what you will eat. You choose one of the three tasting menus, eight, ten or twelve courses. We did the ten with wine pairings. We were a party of 10 celebrating our Mother's 91st birthday. We had a 7 course surprise menu and each and every course was delicious. The service and ambiance was outstanding. The table was placed in such a way that everyone had a magnificent view of the bay. We were even presented with a lovely (pink! birthday cake. It was the perfect place and setting for this celebration as well as a family reunion as we came together in Collioure for the first time in many years from Holland, Australia, New York and Curacao. We can't thank everybody who contributed to this lunch enough for making this a very special day indeed.

Nous étions à l'hôtel et nous ne savions pas à quoi nous attendre. Ce fut une telle surprise avec un délicieux menu dégustation et un service exquis. Tout le personnel était professionnel et très sympathique. Merci à toute l'équipe, nous reviendrons.
