"Had probably the best pizza for ages, small , quaint restaurant with a great view of the castle. Bit of a climb up, but worth it. Reasonably priced and appeared popular with families. Excellent quality home cooked food."

The location is fantastic, especially if you are sitting outside. The day we went to have dinner there it was a balmy evening with kids running riot around the church which was fine but it did mean that they were busy and service was woefully slow (I mean it- and I am a super patient person) and haphazard and not as friendly as one might have liked. This was in stark contrast with service we had had elsewhere in Chauvigny at times which had been just as busy. The menu promised much with prices which were a little more than I was expecting but given the location and the promise of mouthwatering food- we were hopeful.I ordered a galette which was dry and rubbery (and almost cold) but otherwise tasted nice, another family member had a rather good pizza (probably the best dish to order there) and another had the chestnut salad which appeared to be completely without dressing. So we asked for dressing and this took nearly half the time we'd waited again to finally arrive. By which time I was finished with my cold galette and it was discovered that there was some dressing under the, as it turned out, tasty salad. The dessert course was a lot more successful with the icecream scoops served in little Kilner jam jars and the coffees nice and hot.Saving grace? Location. Would I recommend it? For the location- yes. If you fancy romantic and peaceful- avoid children's dinnertimes during school holidays. If you want really good service- make sure it is quiet. If you want to be certain of good food you might want to make sure that you sit near the kitchen or order the pizza.

La Bigorne has a fantastic location in the oldest part of Chauvigny. The building is very old and is full of huge ancient beams. The staircase leading to the additional seating (and toilets) on the first floor is absolutely fantastic - a marvel of old style craftsmanship. The tables are made of reclaimed oak and other hardwoods - you can see the wonderful grain pattern in one of the photos.OK - so the ambience is great, but what of the service and food?We visited on a weekday and it wasn't overly busy but we were greeted in a friendly manner as soon as we arrived - service remained attentive at all times. The food is mainly galettes and pizzas, but some of the pizzas have a base of creme fraiche or mustard sauce rather than tomato which makes an interesting- and tasty - change. They are happy to combine or leave out specific ingredients so we found it agreat place for a vegetarian lunch. I can heartily recommend the one with artichokes (sorry, I can;t remember its name...).The pixxas were great - a thin base of good quality, and they tasted as if they had been cooked in a wood fired oven. The cost for 2 pizzas, 2 green salads, a beer and 2 coffees was less than €30.We'll certainly return.

Situated in the mediaeval part of Chavigny this little restaurant is well worth a visit. We were able to sit outside on a lovely sunny day, most of the tables were sheltered by lovely trees. The food, mainly pizzas, salads and galettes ( my favourite-especially the salmon one) was delicious and the whole meal for 2 with a pizza, galette, green salad, rose wine and coffee was only €28.

Eat here in April 2013. A very small restaurant in an excelelnt setting. Quite small and the staff were working very hard - but coped really well. As the French say - it's not a gastronomic experience (Ce n'est pas de la haute gastronomie ; mais le cadre est superbe : maison médiévale) but it was good honest home cooking in a stunning setting. We will certainly go again!
