On our arrival in Mortgagne on the first wet evening there had been there since July 19 we traipsed around the town looking for somewhere to eat when we came across LA Brasserie. Although they hadn't started serving dinner the young waiter promptly took our drinks order and offered us a menu to peruse. Shortly afterwards an equally pleasant waitress took our order and before very long our meal arrived. I had the specialty of the region Boudin noir (black pudding) and hubby had entrecote steak and for dessert we had tarte Normande. All the food was well presented and tasted delicious. An altogether pleasant dining experience.

We were very happy that we got the last table on a busy Sunday afternoon. After tasting the food we could see the reason was packed with hungry locals. The duck with cider sauce was delicious as were the oven baked potatoes that it came with. The service was friendly as were the delightful French couple that were seated at the table next to ours and even provided us with a list of places to visit during our stay in this lovely part of France.

We ate here recently and the fish was so tough and rubbery, I could not chew it. The waitress asked what was wrong with the meal and I picked it up to show her it seemed to have been half thawed and refrozen before being thrown into oil. She deducted €1.40 from the bill, but essentially I paid to eat a few chips. Admittedly there are not loads of other options in the town.

I don't really like steak but it was perfectly cooked, the frites were good and the coffee and Calvados delicious. The service in a full restaurant for Sunday lunch was exemplary and friendly. Did not eat anything else.
