We stayed in Vierzon for just the one night and frankly that was quite long enough, and had dinner at this little restaurant, tucked up a side street off one of the main drags. It turned out to be a real gem. Unpretentious but with great service and down to earth, honest food and at a price not going to bankrupt one. We turned up just after they opened at 7pm as we like to eat early and received a welcome like long lost friends. The house red was excellent and at just 10e for a full 75cl why one would punt for anything more expensive is a mystery to me. I had foie gras to start and it came with a glass of excellent Bergerac which turned out to be a Monbazillac which is quite expensive and from just outside Bergerac itself. Two different steaks followed both cooked exactly as requested and both with that thing so many steaks in the UK lack – TASTE! That was all we could manage but a cafe calvo to finish ended the meal to perfection. Apparently this place is only no 3 in the town, well No 1 must be Michelin standard to better it for quality, service and value for money but I frankly doubt it will.

My meal at this unpretentious restaurant in an upretentious town in central France turned out to be the best meal of my most recent trip. Definietly a locals place; we were the only English speakers, although I have to admit that it was very off-season. One person running the front of the restaurant and working her tail off to serve a number of tables. My warm smoked herring and potato entree was spectacular, as was my codfish main. Competent preparation of high-quality ingredients, and cost-effective prices. I would go out of my way to return.

Un accueil très chaleureux de la patronne, en finesse et en discrétion. Un repas excellent avec des plats cuisinés maison. Une cuisson parfaite pour une viande rouge de qualité. Une galette bretonne délicieuse. Une crêpe dessert flambée et des profiteroles pour terminer un repas gourmand. Parfait ! Bravo au chef cuisinier. Excellente adresse à partager.

The finest steak I have had in the 16+ years I have lived in France. Coeur de Rumpsteak, so tender and full of flavour. My husband had the Bar (fish), beautifully cooked over wood. Again superb. Highly recommend.
