It was Thursday 3rd January and we were heading for a restaurant in Laparade but it was closed. Tried another on my list in Le Temple but that was closed too. Realised that it was the first week of the year and people were still on holiday. Reluctantly headed for Villeneuve where we were sure to find a restaurant open. This place was on the side of the main road and there were cars in the car park, so we stopped great find! I still can't find a translation of the name Cagouille but I guessed it was something to do with snails/sea food as the decor was very fishy. We visited for our anniversary lunch, taking a bit of a chance as we had not tried this restaurant before. What a fabulous meal we had! We both love escargots with garlic and can rarely find them on menus in Lot et Garonne so we were in heaven. If you are a massive escargots fan you can have an entire menu devoted to them I would have liked to try them with Roquefort but that is not possible unless you opt for that menu. Afterwards I had suprême of pintade (guinea fowl) with tarragon sauce which was beautifully tender and the sauce was to die for. My husband is a steak fan and eats them everywhere. Sous nouvelle direction. Le menu est très similaire à celui d'avant mais avec moins d'accent sur les escargots qui restent cependant à l'honneur mais malheureusement avec moins de beurre à l'ail, bien que vous puissiez également les déguster avec une sauce au Roquefort. Les gambas au beurre à l'ail sont incroyables. Le poulet de guinée à la sauce à l'orange était très bon et les rognons de veau étaient très copieux. Cependant, les accompagnements de légumes étaient plutôt tristes et insipides, et il n'y a pas d'excuse pour cela dans cette région aux produits abondants. Le service était très bon bien que nous regrettions l'animation de l'ancien propriétaire décédé malheureusement.
Myself, wife and my in laws went to this restaurant as the first French restaurant in France on our holiday. Most certainly not disappointed! Menu is small, although everything we ate was absolutely fantastic. We had a mix of starters Escargot, flambé prawns, moules an Italian carpaccio of boeuf, all of which was absolutely delicious. Mains were lovely too, we had veal, duck sausage. To finish we had creme brulee, frozen nougat profiteroles. Even in the short holiday we have here in France we have all said that we will return! This restaurant was advised to us as our hotel’s restaurant was closed. What an amazing surprise! Food was absolutely delicious, we had a “confit de canard”, a “souris d’agneau” as well as “bavette de bœuf”. The desserts were also a magical culinary trip! The moelleux au chocolat, the mousse au chocolat and especially the baba au rhum were an absolute délice! And on the top, everything is homemade. The staff and the owner were also really nice, funny and entertaining! It is a really memorable experience :
Recommandé d'essayer ici pour un dîner du dimanche soir, car tout était fermé ailleurs, y compris notre hôtel à proximité. La nourriture était assez bonne, cependant ce qui a tout gâché pour nous était l'attitude du propriétaire, qui aimait se moquer de nos tentatives de parler français et semblait penser qu'il était un humoriste frustré. Il plaisantait à nos dépens et se tournait sans cesse vers les autres convives (français) pour rire à nos dépens.
My father and I had a lovely evening meal here. Presentation, of the food, was very good and service from the Swiss lady was brilliant. She was polite and friendly. The gruff manner, on arrival, by the gentleman was quite off putting. However, we persevered and were glad we had stayed. The snails in Roquefort was delicious as were the other 2 courses. Thank you very much for a superb meal.
Pendant notre court séjour en Dordogne en octobre, nous cherchions un restaurant ouvert le soir. La Cagouille a été une vraie trouvaille, ne ressemblant à rien de spécial de l'extérieur, nous avons tenté notre chance et la nourriture était fraîchement préparée et d'un bon rapport qualité-prix. Il y a mieux, essayez L'écuille D'or à Clairac, mais La Cagouille vaut tout de même le détour. Réservez une table maintenant
