"Wow! Set in a beautiful chateau, my lunch started with an aperol Spritz to get in Italian frame of mind. I ordered the Fungi Parme which was probably the best pasta dish I've ever had. I was still thinking about it several days later. Will definitely go back asap!"

A group of us had spent the day touring the Haut Médoc. We were exhausted and stumbled on this family run Italian restaurant on our way back to Bordeaux. The restaurant is in a very nice setting: a large home in a suburb of Bordeaux. It looks like it might at one point been a small chateau. There is a terrace that must be very pleasant in the summer. There is a huge choice of pasta dishes on the menu. We started our meal with a large shared plate of charcuterie and our group all chose 5 different pasta dishes and they were all very good. I don't know about the non pasta offerings since we didn't have any.The service was excellent and the owner came to chat with us. He declared his wines from Puglia being better than bordeaux wines so we did have a couple of bottles of Italian wines which were very good. Better than bordeaux??Warning: the portions are gigantic. I would definitely go again but I would choose more appetizers and share the pasta. There is a question on these reviews about prices: I checked the mid-range. I would like to add that it's more than mid-range but not very expensive (about 50 euros per person)

I'm surprised by so many positive reviews. But I suppose it depends on what you want. The prices are high so we supposed it offered fine Italian dining. It did not. It was pile em high. Sell em high. Yes the portions were huge but I want good food more. We ordered prawns in whisky crème pasta, bolognaise, parma ham and mushroom and inferno (beef and pasta). Anyway the pasta was rubbery and dry and the beef was too fatty. I mean I like fat on the meat but this was too much. My husband was picking stuff out of his teeth for ages. We were told that our meal would be for 1 or 1.5 hours. It was a Monday night! We wanted a longer meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary. But because we had used the cab company recommended by the restaurant and our French isn't great we went along with it. And then the cab driver and the restaurant had a conversation when we arrived we couldn't really argue. We then spoke to the cab driver and explained that thought that 30e for 3km seemed a little steep and he reduced it for the return. All in all I would not recommend this place for high quality or a relaxed meal. But you choose.

Quite a nice restaurant to dine in. Food is on the average pointer but the portion is huge. Enough to feed two to three pax per bowl. Dessert is too normal and very sweet. The CHOUQUETTEROLES can be given a miss. Not worth the calories and money. It's just a ice cream puff with whipped cream. Dry and hard puff with half a scoop of ice cream. Tiramisu is too sweet and on the soft side too. Not worth it. Ambience: nothing special though. Just outdoor dining with a pool by the side. Accompanied with gang of mosquitos and house flies. Parking: entering the gate is a challenge if you are driving huge cars/SUV.

Tho long established and well known, this wonderful restaurant was completely new to me and what a fantastic find it was. Not exactly on the main tourist route, but it is only minutes from several famous wineries and the beautiful city of Bordeaux, "La Chartreuse De Parme" is located opposite vineyards @ 55 chain de Couhins in Villenave d'orion and is well worth a visit. If you love delicious home made food in generous proportions, accompanied by an extensive wine list, do go and try it...! but make sure to make a reservation for week-end dinners.
