This is a gem of a local place! We came here on a recommendation from my host who lives 2 minutes away. I was meeting a couple of friends for dinner and needed an inexpensive place to go. It is small, but the 3 staff people there greeted us warmly and asked where we were from. My husband tried a french beer, which he thought was really good. He hasn't had any beer for 20 years. I am pretty picky when it comes to italian food because I am from Philadelphia which has the best italian food in the country IMHO. I saw that they had potato gnocchis with meat sauce on the menu, which is one of my favorite dishes. I ordered that. My husband ordered lasagna, and my friend ordered pizza. They brought my food, beautifully presented, of course. Good portion size. I took a bite thinking it was going to be good enough, but I was really surprised to find that this dish was amazing! Most restaurants overcook pasta, especially gnocchis. It was cooked al dente without me having to ask for it. I loved the meat sauce, a bolognaise. I savored every bite. My husband said the lasagne he had was excellent as well. My friend said he enjoyed his pizza. They were playing some opera music over the PA. I thought it was Muzak or something, but I thought I recognized the voice of the tenor. I asked the waiter who was the singer. He didn't know, but brought out a music CD cover to the table. It was a Mario Lanza CD! I knew he sounded familiar. In case you don't know, Lanza is a very famous opera singer from Philadelphia. I told the waiter that this singer comes from the same town I am from. All 3 staff members thought that was interesting. It was meant to be, coming to this place. It was getting crowded in that little place, and a little warm. We finished our food and continued our chatting outside in the cooler air. We thanked everyone for the wonderful dinner. Be sure you come early to get a good seat! Great food and staff.
