I have been going to this little restaurant since I was 12 years old, back in the 80's. I have been back several times since and the meals have always been excellent, medium to high price however I have not always felt full on leaving , but the experience has always been good. I cannot fault the place, however the menu still rides in the 1980's [Which many of the French still seem to adopt] along with its stencilled wooden painted beam décor. If the Maître 'd or front of house owner likes you, you may be lucky enough to receive a "Punch aperitif" on the house, that comes from an enormous cauldron, for as long as I can remember. Well behaved children welcome, as long as there are no shrieks or running around. It is aimed at the connoisseur, the lost or Hungry foreign passenger and the active retired coming home via the ferry which is only 45 mins away. If you like nasturtiums, coulis, beetroot mousse, and other artistic food designs from the last decade or so, then this is the place for you! The Chef is the husband of the owner and he has not changed his winning formula - which still works as a one off or deep French gastronomic surprise. There is a small car park opposite, with some nice views off to an old chateau. (and a supermarket.) If you get friendly with the owner, you can get your food on their plates for takeaway for less the service charge. I don't recommend this as the food and décor only marry together, and does not seem to taste same if eating it on your lap in front of your telly. If you are coming back through Falaise and you have some 100Euro bills to spend then drop in and immerse into a slightly dated French Gastronomy. Would I go back?.... well only if I had to because I have seen it and got the preverbal tee-shirt, and if I was not paying!, but do go, at least once.

Unfortunately our visit was on a very rainy, mid week night in early May and the restaurant was very quiet but we were made very welcome and the service and food was excellent. We had a 4 course menu that also had an amuse bouche and were given a second taster dessert so it was really 6 courses! Everything well cooked and their home made bread was delish! Pretty good value for what we had and I would certainly recommend the short walk out of the centre to try this place.

On our way back to the ferry I remembered this place from 4 years ago as it was so good and it still is! The decor isn't the best though it's ok but the food is excellent. A very interesting menu with something to please everybody. I'd describe it as classy cooking without being pretentious. The extras--the bread and the amuse bouche are very good.I'll be back in another 4 years!!

Ignore the decor and the background music when you get to this restaurant because the food is amazing! The service is efficient and friendly. We chose from the 29 euro menu and were surprised when we not only enjoyed an amuse bûche but also a pre-dessert dessert!!
