My wife and I had cause to visit Avranches the other day. At lunchtime we were passing La Fourchette and as we discovered many years ago, the outward appearance of any restaurant is usually irrelevant where the quality of the food offering is concerned and La Fourchette is no exception. It is not in any way an unpleasant façade but simply does not look like a high class restaurant (which it makes no pretension to being). At lunchtime they serve a menu ouvrier and it was packed with workers all tucking into fine fare. the starters, cheese course and deserts weren 't of the 'homemade ' variety but the main courses (I had filet mignon and my wife the Blanquette de dinde which translates as whit...
