My boyfriend and I visited in November for one truly unforgettable night! Marc and his entire staff were amazing - friendly, personable and generous. After we checked in (we had a cozy room that was perfect - rustic and chic at the same time!), we were given a tour and hiked up to the top of the mountain (ok, maybe just a bit of it) and then had one of the most memorable meals I've ever had! We had the house special cocktail which despite it's price I totally recommend, followed by a sumptuous meal and a dessert platter which was massive and divine! One part, Marc told a story as some little green ball dissolved in our mouths and the ball evoked his story to a T - you have to experience it to know what I mean! Our waiters, the staff, the sommelier and the forager (? I'm not really sure what this guy did but he was in charge of finding all the unusual roots and plants) were wonderful - patiently explaining everything to us in English though even then we didn't get half of the ingredients because they were so esoteric and we aren't true "foodies," just love an amazing experience. They were really amazing. Breakfast is made with eggs from the chickens that roost in the inn (yes, you heard that right) and cows that they milk under the inn and was another mind blowing experience. I loved everything about this place!

We checked in on a beautiful sunny afternoon in Marc Veyrat's domain and were directly welcomed by... himself! I have to admit that I consider Chefs as rockstars so this encounter was very surprising and pleasant. Indeed, the Chef is more than approachable and he loves to talk about food and nature. He is truly an amazing personality and likes to spend time with his guests. We stayed one night in one of his chalets, which was also a very nice experience. The evening menu was magical, from the start to the end. We were with our 8-year-old daughter who received an adapted menu and who loved the experience as much as we did! The following morning we enjoyed a sunny breakfast on the terrace - truly the best in the world! And we left this beautiful place after having visited the herbs garden and greeted the Chef! This is frankly one of the places to visit before you die :-)Enjoy!

Yes, La Maison des bois is a very expensive place, but compared to what? There is no place in the world where you can have the same experience. Having dinner there is a very unique experience, you will taste, identify and even "feel" so many flavours you thought did not exist anymore; each one with the perfect balance, never spoiling or hiding another one. From the first course to the last one, everything is perfect, new, surprising, so much inventive even with products everyone knows. Having dinner at la Maison des Bois is a complete discovery even for those with many previous experiences in best restaurants worldwide. Marc Veyrat is a genius chef, an artist, an inventor who needs to share his passion. Lucky you if you can go there!

There is Michael Jordan for Basketball and then there's Marc Veyrat for "cuisine" Probably the best chef in the world...don't bother about guides and ranking just try La Maison des Bois and then make your own opinion. On top of that Marc Veyrat is a wonderful host and he is actually in his kitchen unlike many overmarketed stars in this category. One last advice go for the full 11-12 course menu...anything less would be very frustrating!
