Out on its own in Col du Pre, near Beaufort, this is a magnificent restaurant with a wide panoramic terrace (you need to phone ahead and book on busy days) giving great views of Mont Blanc and the entire snow capped ridge across the region. The place runs smoothly and sweetly with a highly efficient serving team and kitchen squad. Specialities are regional dishes (although the Beaufort cheese crumble that I ordered was suddenly 'off ', and I had to replace with an omelette). It opens lunchtimes when the snow melts, and evenings from mid July to the end of August, provided you don 't mind the sometimes scary drive down narrow winding mountain lanes. Basically this place is open early June to mid October. The omelettes are excellent; each made from three large eggs plus cream. The plates of frites are big enough for sharing. Prices are reasonable (our group of eight had lunch, pud and drinks for a total of 180e). Loos are downstairs, but the staff loo also doubles as the disabled loo and is easy to get to on the main floor step free but you have to ask. A huge selection of ice creams to finish.
