Lovely friendly service, very good lunch, dogs allowed! We ate the menu du jour at €22.00 and had a glass of Sauvignon each as we were driving. The village was quite sleepy and we only walked down this street by chance, the saw the restaurant. We had salade de tomates, with pistou, Bayonne ham and bread as a starter..Main was roast shoulder of veal with a sauce of ceps, stewed red onions, confit potato and spinach. Delicious! Pudding was panna cotta flavoured with pistachio with a compote of summer fruits and a chocolate brandy snap. All very good. Madame spoke to us about our dogs and gave us an impromptu grammar lesson when I used the wrong past tense for 'sold'. All very friendly and fun. Chef patron came and spoke to us as we were paying the bill and leaving. We would definitely return and would recommend this place to anyone in the area. Would definitely return.

This is one of the best restaurants in the area. Tucked away a little yet very close to the centre of Montendre. It's based in an old Ironmongery shop, hence the name & the slightly quirky layout inside. Run by a husband & wife team & listed by Michelin. Great food, excellently presented & attentive service. Some English is spoken. Slightly pricier than other restaurants in the area, but well worth the few extra Euros. Lunch menus start around 22 Euros, Dinner menus start around 32 Euros going up to around 70 depending what you're after (prices Oct 2016). All are good. As is the a la carte.

We tried on the recommendation of a friendly local and were not disappointed. The service struck the right balance; attentive without being obtrusive, the hostess; friendly and informative, and the chef; a master of his craft. This was probably the best meal we have had in France for many years. Three courses of sheer delight, well worth a detour to facilitate a visit.

We went for lunch with our French friends and this restaurant impressed us very much. We chose from the fixed price menu - around 30 Euros and the food and its presentation was excellent. A very pleasant experience and it lived up to its Michelin star exceptionally well. We will be returning!
