Affronted that we had not made a reservation despite it being Wednesday in mid October and there being no other diners, the miserable waitress somehow managed to find a table in this huge soulless restaurant. The worst fish soup in France, very thin, unseasoned and with an unhealthy stale fish aroma was not a good start. My clams were at least edible but a mere 9 specimens in salty brown liquid seemed rather economic given that we had watched the locals gathering them at low tide by the bucket load. The sea bream fillet was cooked correctly but served with an utterly flavour-free mush of glass noodles and beansprouts which tasted of a tainted frying pan. My fillet de boeuf was far from seign...
Le menu avait l'air correct, mais la nourriture était plutôt décevante. Le steak était bon, avec des frites, mais nous avons dû demander la 'salade' qui aurait dû l'accompagner. Le dorade était un petit filet avec une sauce aux herbes fade et un paquet de purée d'aubergine, correct mais pas bon rapport qualité-prix à 17 euros. Comme dans une autre critique récente, nous avons été surpris que la serveuse demande si nous avions réservé et devait vérifier s'il y avait de la place dans le restaurant presque vide. Elle était également désireuse de nous parler en anglais et de nous expliquer le menu de manière condescendante - Nous comprenons les menus français et venons en France pour une expérie...
On a quiet off-season night out we walked in La Regate. The nice waitress spoke English very well (something not so common in France) and we were offered the choice of an English or French menu. We ordered the crab dish and the homemade foie gras. Both of which were nice starters. The main course was especially good. I had the catch of the day (tuna and monkfish) and my wife had the lamb dish. The presentation of the food was nice, it tasted very good and service was very friendly and alert. Although it was a very quiet night, we had a very nice evening.
Une excellente cuisine de haute qualité à des prix décents. Nous avons dégusté des huîtres, des langoustines et divers poissons, mais le steak était également très bon. L'atmosphère était calme mais peut être très animée, donc réservez. Le personnel et le chef étaient excellents et j'ai noté l'accessibilité aux fauteuils roulants. L'ensemble de l'endroit est à côté de la plage et un bel endroit pour terminer une bonne journée. Le coût était d'environ 108 euros pour trois personnes pour une cuisine étoilée Michelin - ça en valait vraiment la peine.

We visited this restaurant in November, as we had last year. It was one of the few restaurants open in Douarnenez on a midweek evening. The staff spoke to us in English even though we had a reasonable understanding of the menu. It is in a lovely location near the beach at Plage de Sable Blanc, and they specialise in fish and seafood. Well worth a visit.
La Regate is primarily a fish and seafood restaurant, where everything is fresh and imaginatively cooked without going to extremes. Breaking the fishy theme, I had guinea fowl, which was first class. The set menus are good value, as is the small but well-chosen wine list, and the staff are chatty, relaxed and welcoming.
Cet endroit est juste en face de mon hôtel. Le menu est varié et nous nous sommes principalement concentrés sur les fruits de mer. Un excellent service, une bonne sélection de vins et une nourriture au-dessus de la moyenne. La plupart des goûts sont satisfaits. Excellent et recommandé !!
Found this restaurant in the list of open places. Never thought that in the middle of a week restaurants could be just closed. This was opened and we visited it. Not a comfy place, but we were welcomed. Good service, small, very small main course. Unusual for France b

Whilst English obviously wasn't the proprietors best subject at school he tried hard and made us most welcome ! The food wasn't high cuisine but was perfectly adequate , especially the nougat ice cream. Bagpipe music not to my taste !
Friendly and helpful staff, great place to eat and they were able to cope with a group of 16 easily. Food excellent try the white fish.!
