Having visited nearby Peche Merle cave we stumbled across this restaurant. It looked a little unprepossessing at first but boy, can first impressions be wrong. We had the best meal of our holiday here. The food was excellent-well cooked, seasoned and expertly presented. The staff were happy, smiling and very efficient. We were slightly late but this was not a problem and being seated outside could enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the pleasant sunshine. My pork was perfect as was Pam's lamb. We knew it must be good because there were so many satisfied French people around us, and, as we were leaving, we heard the Chef having a slight paddy in the kitchen. He obviously cares about what he does. Wonderful find.

Stopped in for lunch with no reservations. Luckily arrived just minutes before a tour bus pulled up.Service was very friendly, efficient, unhurried, informative, and observant. Our meals were without question the best of our month-long trip. Very high quality ingredients. All fresh. The best bread - finally real baguette not par bake! A dessert of unconstructed key lime pie was phenomenal. And this was only lunch. Drive that long, winding road to Cabererts, get a overnight, and go to La Roux for dinner. That's what I'm going to do on my next trip. This is a meal to remember!

La Roue was one of the few places open for lunch on a Sunday. They were exceptionally busy when we got there, but were working hard to accommodate everyone. For as small and out-of-the-way as the facility is, the food was amazing. We got the vegetarian bagel and Italian bagel. Both were wonderful. Significantly better than I expected. The server kept apologizing for the wait, but it was obvious she was harried and doing all anyone could facing a tour bus full of people immediately before we got there. Given the circumstances, they did well.

We stopped here after a tour of the cave just up the road. There seem to be about three or four restaurants in town. I had a vegetarian bagel and my boyfriend had to be the Italian bagel, which was kind of like a cheeseburger. He really liked his and I really liked mine. We had been in France for about a week and this was the first restaurant meal that impressed us.
