La Roulotte du Coin

When in Quebec, Canada, one must try the national dish called poutine (pronounced poo-tin) - gravy and melted cheese over fresh made french fries, and we were in pursuit of the quintessential offering.After doing a little research, my daughter and I settled on a visit to La Roulette du Coin on Ile d'Orleans, an island just a few miles north of Old Quebec City that is accessed by a very cool bridge. Supposedly the best poutine in QC, and I agree. We ordered the house poutine, a hamburger, and the duck hot dog. Everything was super tasty, and I'd recommend that everybody driving around on Ile d'Orleans stop for a bite to eat. It's quick, affordable, and heavy on delivery. Flavor, quality of ingredients, and portions are right on the money.The only issue is the sheer volume of flies. The picnic tables are between the trailer and the duck pond. I've never been assaulted by such voracious-ravenous creatures before. Thankfully the food is super tasty because you'll either have to eat in the car, or flee from the flies. We visited the island on a sunny Saturday afternoon for lunch. The grass parking area was full along with most of the picnic tables. The restaurant has the feel of a gourmet food truck. We ordered the medium sized regular poutine and two teas - lavender and honey mint. The medium poutine is enough for two people to share comfortably rather than ordering one per person and feeling stuffed. Vegetarians and vegans should be well aware that the fries are cooked in duck fat since the menu features various preparations of duck. Our bill was $23CAD ($11 poutine and $4.5/tea + tax). Everything is with duck. I took a hot dog with duck sausage and it was very good! Great business model. Enjoyed a late lunch on Sunday. Very pleasant outdoor stop away from the crowd. No view on the St Laurent river but the site and the living ducks near the picnic table make it charming. Very good meal, a bit expensive, I mean for a casse croute but not more expensive as a good restaurant would be. I will go back. ! Réservez une table maintenant

Enjoyed a late lunch on a beautiful afternoon. The pulled duck hamburger was interesting - might try the regular hamburger next time. The grilled cheese was very good and the home- made tea and strawberry soda were interesting. Best of all was the relaxing picnic type atmosphere watching the ducks, hens and a very polite dog.

Go hungry! Besides the boutique that sells pates and duck products, the owner has a foodtruck with fantastic options, such as the fries in duck fat, foie gras burgers, etc. One of the most interesting meals in the island!
