"Just remembering our meal perhaps tells it all: an exquisite fresh salad of mixed greens topped with hot goat cheese in a delicate pastry pocket, fresh trout almondine with seasonal vesgetables (each prepared in an interesting manner, such a a tiny beet soufflé and squash stuffed with mushrooms) and a simple dessert of cassis and lemon sorbet. Very reasonable price. Attentive but unobtrusive service. Since we were driving, we did not sample their wine selection."

Stopped for lunch as it looked good from outside. A very warm welcome and we were lead into a small but tradional dining room with all the tables set for lunch. We opted for the Menu du Jour which was very simple but quite splendid. I had a salad, followed by salmon followed by tarte Normande. The salad filled the plate and was made up of freshly prepared vegetables and meat - really a meal in itsself. The salmon was beautifuly cooked and seasoned in a butter and herb sauce and came with vegetables. Again, a meal on its own and excellent. The tarte Normande was one of the best ever in my experience - a small work of art and fantastic tesxtures and flavours. We had a bottle of water and two coffees and the cost was 30 euros - unbelievable value for money for such a good meal in proper surroundings and with very warm and friendly service.Highly recommended and a reminder of how good France can be.

While travelling through France, we chanced upon Saint-Georges-sur-Loire and got out to stretch our legs and have a look around. As it was lunchtime, we decided to try La Tete Noire, who were advertising a Formula for €12.To our surprise, we found ourselves in a large, traditional dining room with hunting scene folk art murals on the walls. The very friendly waitress provided us with a menu with a large number of choices on it, including vegetarian options. The food was tasty, good sized portions. The whole experience was a lovely – and unexpected – one, and we’ll certainly be back next time we’re passing through.

In the town centre by the Town Hall (the parking is free for AN HOUR AND A HALF;We were visiting the Chateau de Serrant which is just up the road and popped in for a light lunch. My wife had lardons for a main course which was superb , a friens had an omelette and another friend and I shared a pizza.Topped of by a pudding and coffee with a pichet of local red wine. The toilet/s are upstairs so difficult if disabled or climbing is difficult but they are very friendly and there is probably a more acceccible downstairs loo - but check first.Phone 02 41 39 13 12
