When hunger pangs call for more familiar Indian fare, Lakshmi Vilas is your stop. Standard vegetarian food with an authentic flavour and ambience which is true to the neighbourhood 'eating joint' as we know it. It is a no frills restaurant, but the menu offers breakfast favourites like dosas (India style crepes), idlis (rice cakes), vadas (Indian spicy doughnuts) pooris (indian fried bread) in combo meals as well as a lunch counter for those craving a more wholesome diet with rice and curries to choose from. Our order was quickly consumed, we had idlis which were steamed just right soft and spongy. The vada was over fried, not my favourite in this meal. The dosas were good, crispy and thin a...

My wife and I ate lunch at Lakshmi Vilas on Friday 28th October, 2016 and I was so impressed I just had to write this review. We have eaten there probably 4 or 5 times now and each time the quality of the food has been superb; for some reason, last Friday it was even better! We had Vadi’s and chutney and Pakoras as a starter (and then my wife pinched some of my) special tali which included rice, chapathi, samba, many different styles of vegetable curries, yoghurt, pappadum etc – all yummy! They then kindly gave us a complimentary (sweet) Ladoo because it is Divali. We ate all of this accompanied by lovely fresh Mango lassie! (I had two)The décor is strictly café style and quite unpretentious b...

This restaurant is next to MKS dandenong. A Pure veg menu, simple too. Main items are dosa and thali. We had masala dosa, Mysore dosa, Ghee dosa, coffee and Chili Baji. The food is really good and neat place. There is only limited tables, so make sure you reach before 12 pm , otherwise you may get dissapointed by not getting a seat. The gulab Jamu is one of the best and biggest i tasted in Melbounre

Nice small place but noticed that in last few months their prices have increased be almost 60%. It used to be reasonable but now a bit expansive for the area it is in and also decor of this place. Taste is still good. Réservez une table maintenant

The thali of the day should be enough to satisfy all but the glutton with rice , 3 curries , pappadum , chapati a bhaji and more. Strictly vegetarian, in Hindu tradition, and ridiculously inexpensive.

Foodies get lot of choices and the staff was very curious and helpful. Greta place for Indian and Srilankan food, sea food varities and can buy groceries as well in same place. Rajendra

When I eat here I am in India. Each part of their Thali has its own delicious taste and texture - a perfect balance. The kitchen is busy and happy.

I liked my masala dosa and the other two liked their thalis. Simple seating and atmosphere but good food. We lingered on conversing.
