Landhotel Saarschleife

We stopped by Landidyll Landhotel Saarschleife on our way back from Luxembourg and what a great find! Turned out to be one of the best meals of our trip definitely ranks among the best gnocchi I've ever, ever had! Started out with an *incredible*...cocktail Lavender infused gin, lemon cremant so good! As we're perusing the menus, out comes an amuse of roasted tomato pickled onions packed with flavor! It was asparagus season we wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to have as many delicious spears as possible Mr ordered the classic traditional white asparagus with new potatoes in hollandaise sauce. Those spears were cooked to perfection still had a bit of crunch and the texture contained no hard woody bits at all the Mr said these were the best spears he's ever had from him, that's saying something, given his Bavarian heritage My gnocchi arrived I was blown away. Tempura green spears sat atop the tenderest, stuffed pillows filled with even more asparagus. The pesto sauce cheese were the perfect ratios even the Mr had huge eye rolls Dessert consisted of a fantastic cheese plate, showcasing the region's finest we walked out of there totally stuffed totally happy totally looking forward to coming back!! I am still dreaming of that gnocchi!!

The streetside terrace and its evening sun got my attention. Then I noticed the high prices and the snooty attitude of the waiters (at least they were fast and efficient). They brought some free taster of a weird jelly and egg concoction that seemed like...something my grandmother would have eaten during the great depression. The mains seemed to be based around local produce so I got the pork cutlet. For it was a single cutlet it seemed like a very good cut of meat, however, it also seemed overcooked and a bit rubbery. There were a lot of good veges with it and potato cakes but they seemed designed to fill out the dish cheaply. The wine list was extensive, including a lot of Mosel wines at decent prices. Overall though, it needs to try a lot harder to justify those prices and that attitude.

Open on Sunday, we decided to eat here as we were visiting the Saarschleife. English speaking waitress, but there is no English menu (only German). Nice selection if wines by glass with many local options. The food we ordered was good (rabbit and fish) and...the portions were quite big. At almost euros per main we found it expensive though, because after all this is no haute cuisine. Also, feel free to skip the dessert : we paid euros for a very average tiramisu. That was a bad idea.

Amazingly nice place with fine local cuisine, friendly personal and nice decor details. You can taste a variety of seasonal dishes as well as local specialities nicely tuned by the chef.

Fine dining, great service. Really, it was a pleasant surprise. I do hope they hold on to this level, and I will be there again.
