It was our Wedding Anniversary and we weren't sure where we wanted to go for dinner. What we did know, is that we wanted to get a drink in the bar at Maison de Plaisiers 'Laperouse'... a legendary restaurant, overlooking the Seine, which opened...in a restaurant I have wanted to visit for many years. However, the prices here are not for the faint of heart; so we chose to have champagne in the bar. THE BAR The bar was beautifully decorated with an old Parisian feel and live piano music. The hostess was a delight and very enthusiastic about sharing the history of this amazing establishment. I ordered a fruit infused Champagne cocktail titled "La Vie en Rose" and my husband had a glass of the Veuve Clicquot Brut Carte Jaune. Both were amazing! (the two glasses came to From the moment of our arrival, the staff could not do more for us. We asked to see the menu (which had no prices LOL) and decided to throw caution to the wind and ask if there was availability in the restaurant. The answer.. yes! THE RESTAURANT We were escorted up the tight, winding staircases, passing dimly lit, romantic little dinning rooms, with crystal chandeliers, the perfect spot for a small group or private tête-à-tête. At the top, we arrived in a wonderful room with views of the flowing Seine and a very talented pianist setting the mood. Menus, were followed by the arrival of the Sommelier, who had wonderful ideas for the perfect wine pairing for our meal. We decided on a bottle of the Chateau Simone Palette Rouge, from Provence-Corse (bottle OUR DINNER First, the Amuse Bouche of three delightful bites each. A lovely delicate beginning Second, we were brought a small individual taste of Pot-Au-Feu; a light meat broth with small vegetables and thinly sliced beef. Third, began our order Our Starter: Alexandre Dumas Foie Gras, with brioche, fleur de sel, and a sweet yet tangy chutney. My husband and I shared this smooth and delightful starter. Our Main: The main dish we chose is only available for two persons. A perfectly cooked Veal Chop (cooked in a salt crust and no it wasn't salty), drizzled with roasted garlic and parsley jus. It was served with a side of creamy puree potato. For Dessert: I had the decadently dark Chocolate Souffle (a specialty of Laperouse), while my husband went for the Vacherin Royal, a combination of light as air dried Meringue with Vanilla Gelato. Both were amazing. Then I had Espresso and my husband had an Infusion (herbal tea) House Dessert: After the dessert, and with our coffee/tea, they brought over a wonderful dark chocolate studded with nuts and seeds, placed upon a mirrored tray. They gently tapped the large square of chocolate with a crystal hammer, breaking it into bite size pieces. This was served with a bowl of almonds and two buttery Madeleine. Total cost for drinks in the bar, bottle of wine, and dinner, came to for people. Although the service was included, we also left a tip for the outstanding attention we received My husband and I couldn't have asked for a more delicious meal, in a more romantic setting, than Laperouse. The staff were attentive yet not overbearing, seeing to it, that our experience was as legendary as the restaurant itself. We had an amazing time, in a beautiful location, with outstanding food, and attentive service. A Wedding Anniversary we will never forget
