This seemed a good place to eat when visiting the church at Moneins. And first and foremost I must say that the fish was really fresh and very tasty. We arrived for lunch spot on 12.00 but before the restaurant had opened, another couple (local, French) got there before us so we chatted to them about the restaurant. They praised it roundly so the anticipation level increased. It was a cold day (snow on the Pyrenees looked stunning in the sunshine) but when Monsieur opened up the fire needed to be stoked to warm the cold room up. It was a shame that Madame tried to seat us on the little table next to the loos when the whole restaurant was empty, however we declined that table and happily sat elsewhere. The restaurant was quite pretty, an old converted barn I guess. First problem was no menu was offered, just the Carte. So we made our choice from that with no problem - the filo wrapped and deep fired gambas followed by the wild bass tempted both of us. Yes, the gambas and dipping sauce were very, very good but such a shame to plonk a bit of salad on the side. And the bass had a lovely flavour, was very well cooked, and again had an excellant sauce to accompany it, but again the accompanying vegetables were underwhelming - I can hardly remember them. We ordered a half bottle of Pouilly Fume but (quel horreur) it arrived at the table already opened. Not wishing to make a fuss but we were certain that the contents were a local Jurancon! We finished with chocolate fondants that were tasty & competently made, though not exciting at all! The whole cost us 100 euros and I would never bother to go back there again. Perhaps we are spoilt with the local restaurants in the part of France where we live, but surely Moneins can do better that that?

Friendly staff , innovative food and very tasty. Diversified veggies and finely cooked meet or fishes.Fair regional wines from good producers Had an issue with a bottle of wine. No issue to swap with another one.Extra choice of alcohol to close your dinner.A bit expensive, a la carte, but no regrets. You feel welcome and staff paying attention to you and your guests.Thank you for such value experience.

It's surprising how difficult it is to find fresh food in the restaurants in this area which is a garden for the whole of Europe. I make this comment in the hope to prompt change. It's the most gorgeous region.

There isn't a huge menu here, but you won't be dissappointed. High quality ingredients, authentic regional dishes. By all means, save room for dessert!
