Le Bistrot de St Val

I reviewed the St-Val a few years ago & rated it good, & on our current visit we had a perfectly enjoyable meal there a few nights ago.But what a difference last night! I think my husband enjoyed his meal, and my main course (filet mignon de porc) was fine, but I'm pretty sure my fish soup starter was out of a carton, & it had clearly been kept warm & not stirred properly as it was full of bits of congealed soup. And my chocolate mousse had obviously been hanging around for a while - it had started to shrink away from the sides of the dish & had a tough skin on top. My husband's looked fine, so maybe I'd upset the waitress. I should have complained, but I'm a coward!Not impressed, and I doubt we'll eat here again.

We had the three course menu and it was fine. Nothing too fancy but all the better for that.Well presented,well cooked and excellent portion. Hubby particulalry liked the fish soup. Can't understand the negativity about the staff from some reviewers -they were great. We would definately go back. Very understated but far more for us than some of the very fancy places in town.

If you're used to UK seaside cafes/fish bars that have a similar appearance to this low-key restaurant, then you might give this a miss - which would be a great loss. An extensive menu, swift and friendly service, and views over the port added to reasonable prices make this a winner in my book

Good choice menus ,made 2 visits ,had 2 completely different meals one meat , the other seafood, enjoyed them both,very reasonable price,good service,recommended.

Slightly touristy place, but good moule and near the water (across the parking lot). Reasonable service but not very wide choice of dishes.
