We're on a family holiday in the Lot et Garonne region for a few weeks. We visited Penne d'Agenais yesterday. It is one of the most beautiful and interesting villages in the area with a few nice restaurants and shops. We chose to eat at Le Bombe Cul which has a lovely terrasse outside the Mairie, and the style is nicely modern. The kids menu is €11 and the menu de jour was €17. Kids got homemade chicken goujons and mash with a nice fruity sauce, ice cream and to drink, Grenadine - a typical French kids squash. They were happy. We adults ate well too, when it arrived. The starter was melon and a dried ham, mains were joue de boeuf on ratatouille and goats cheese and dessert was a lovely fresh fruit salad with a mint infused syrup. The local white and red wines were also good. The pity of it was the service which let the place down badly. If I was the Chef here I'd be crying as the terrible service had an real effect on our perception of the restaurant.Neither waiter nor waitress really listened. The kids meals arrived 20 minutes before our starter arrived so we couldn't eat together as a family. We also waited 15 minutes to be able to order an aperatif and wine. The two service staff were not communicating with each other or with the kitchen that we could see. And when our Joue de Boeuf, which should have been tender and falling apart at the touch of a fork, it had a hard crust as it had been left under the heater lights for too long and so that course was a real disappointment. This restaurant could shine if only it employed a couple of good front of house staff. Until it does, it will fail to shine as it should. A missed opportunity.

We arrived in Penne on our way to the west and found this place with food on the wide stone terrace overlooking the town. The service was charming and efficient and the food fresh and perfectly cooked. I had a leg of suckling pig that was really scrumptious. A great find, and only an extra half an hour from our regular haunts near Bonaguil and therefore a place to return to.

This place is a little gem in the area. The food is excellent, although a little pricey, and the waiters are alll courteous and friendly. It is child and dog friendly, and it is worth making a reservation in the evenings, as it does get busy.

We visited in July and the staff were very helpful. My husband is celiac and so we needed some help with the menu. The food was good, although my dish was a little cold - it was tasty. My husband really rated his dish.
