We managed to book a table for the following night which was fortunate, as on the night we wandered by the restaurant was full as it was on the night we went. Our waiter was friendly and helpful and the service very professional. We had a round table near the kitchen but we never felt in the way - the set menu at 37 euros per head is wonderful value - three of us had the seafood entree; then the fish main while one of our party had the scallop and chorizo entree and the fish main. Delicious little homemade savoury pastries were presented to the table as well as a very light salmon tartare - we drank a very nice Cote Du Rhone and the waiter suggested a German Riesling for a dessert wine which nicely complemented our choices - the chocolate orange fondant for my husband; homemade rubarb tart with a berry sorbet for myself and thin apple tarts with caramel icecream for our friends. Oh, I almost forgot the cheese trolley - to die for!!! We sampled several and each were delicious - the waiter told us where each cheese was from so nice to have that knowledge.

We had some time to kill before the overnight ferry from Caen and rather than going for one of the many high street brasseries, we instead tracked down this fabulous local French restaurant five minutes from the centre of Cabourg. Some classic French dishes, impeccable service and a good selection of wines made for a brilliant evening. Set menus of €27 and €36 allowed for plenty of choice. The Oysters and Lobster the table next to us were having looked superb. The profiteroles and hot chocolate sauce were particularly sensational - picture below. Friendly and helpful waiters too. Just really, really good all round.

Between the four of us, not a bad meal was had. All offerings, from bread and salad to fish entrees and dessert were well prepared and nicely presented. (I am not a "foodie," so it's rare for me to be able to recount dishes and ingredients.) The cheese platter was excellent, though. The wait staff was OK, nothing exceptional. Beware, Americans-- Normans do not speak or understand American English well. Nor do they appreciate your attempts to speak French.

We were a group of 7 people and we all agreed that this was the perfect French dining experience. An informal but elegant interior and the service was excellent. Fresh seafood, delicious sauces and a lovely menu of regional dishes and local ciders and wines. We'll go back when next in the area!
