Le Cabouillet - Réserver une table

We went to this restaurant on New Year's day with my sister and her husband, who live in the next village. The food, when we got it, was excellent but the organisation and staffing left much to be desired. To be fair to them, they felt short-staffed, so it may be that some staff had partied too well the previous night and not turned up for their shift.We arrived shortly before 1pm with about three other groups of people and had to hang around downstairs for about ten minutes as the three waiting staff (the woman we took to be the patronne, a man and a very young and slightly overwhelmed young girl) were clearly dealing with clients upstairs in the restaurant as well as welcoming new arrivals. This was quite unnecessary as it would have been easy, when my sister made the booking the previous day, for us to have been asked to come a little earlier, or later, so as to stagger arrivals so it made for an irritated beginning.When we were seated in the very pleasant room, we could see that the staff were under pressure but we didn't expect to wait for just under half an hour before we were given menus. The menu had an attractive €39 menu so we made our choices, having ordered two different bottles of wine, and waited for our order to be taken. After quite a long time the patronne arrived and said that the prix fixe menu was not available because it was a holiday. No where was this indicated (nor, I think, on the website). The à la carte menu had most of the things on the prix fixe menu but they were much more expensive. Madame also reeled off a number of special items (several of which we chose) but without any indication of price.When the food eventually arrived, it was excellent - well-presented and extremely well cooked - but the experience was seriously marred by the inefficiency of the welcome and the service, not to mention the very high prices. My husband and I chose to share a main course (wisely as it was enormous) but were made to feel that this was not acceptable, and the extra plate was not hot. In the end we paid about €75 a head for four starters and desserts and three main courses, plus two bottles of wine. A high price for such a mixed experience. We eschewed coffee and went back to my sister's house for coffee and digestifs! In view of the problems, my sister is unsure whether she will try the restaurant again.

le cabouillet restaurant 5, quai de l'Oise (street number and street name) 95290 l'Isle-Adam (postal code and town name)Francethis is a hotel and restaurant located 45 minutes north of Paris in one of the most sought out place by parisians for a week-end escapademany of one artist have come to this area to paint some are now famous! can't recall who exactly! it has a river passing just down the hotel called “Oise” i went there with my wife, making her a surprise, on a saturday at 12 pm (noon), i had call in to reserve the day before!the best place is inside the restaurant at the 1st floor as it is cool and protected from the sun and noise down the street and you have a wonderful overview of the Oise river passing down!the good thing is that it was just after the french holidays so all parisians had gone back to work so on that week end they were not going a lot out so we enjoyed the calm and beauty of the place!we had a very romantic lunch and the food was really amazing gastronomic french cuisine go on their website for menuthis seems to be a family owned and run hotel and restaurant!the lady who served us was in regular clothes no uniform but she was very friendly and accommodating!we had 2 entrees 2 main dishes and 2 desserts plus 2 fruit juiceswe spent 90 euros +tipswhat we particularly enjoyed is that the service was not like in big famous fancy restaurants of downtown Paris yet the quality presentation taste and delicacy of dishes was awesome!definitely will go back there!

Perhaps, if we had Tripadvisor handy, we would have dined somewhere else according to these ratings. But with the Michelin Red Guide in hand and the need for a lunch stop somewhere along our route from Amiens to Orleans, this appeared to be a reasonable stop. It was. Although we were served the first rolls on this month long trip that were nearly stale, everything else turned out to be very commendable.The amuse d'bouche, our main course (we chose not to have starters) and desserts were all very good. The wine list was extensive and fairly priced.Being able to sit out on a patio near the river was relaxing. There was only one other couple dining on a Friday afternoon. Service was gracious and efficient.We picked this destination out of expediency, but have learned subsequently that it is a very desirable weekend getaway for Parisians. The town has some charm, and apparently a lot of retirees. One can see why many painters were drawn to the Oise. From the number of establishments rated by Tripadvisor, it merits further exploration.

Just eaten at Le Cabouillet. It is a quaint restaurant on the first floor of a hotel overlooking the Oise river. The food is great, with lovely flavours, and excellently cooked and presented. I had prawns in with a wild garlic puree, and succulent lamb as a main course. With 25 diners, and three staff in the restaurant, the service was not as quick as I had hoped. Having said that, everyone was extremely welcoming, and made dining an experience I will not forget for a long time. This is a restaurant that is certainly worth a visit, provided you have time to savor.
