Le Castel - Réserver une table

We arrived early as our preferred restaurant the Terrasse was closed (Monday). The restaurant Le Castel was empty. Le Castel is alongside a large holiday trailer park I'm sure it gets busy later on from the hungry campers. Another couple were debating wether to dine at the Castel they seemed reassured when we went in. As said it was empty. Both us and the other couple were offered tables in a thoroughfare next to the main service hatch. We asked to be seated in the main empty dining area the French couple asked likewise. They were shown into the empty humongous dining area we had to wait for an English speaking waitress. We were then told by the English speaking waitress that the dodgy table was the only free one that all others were booked presumably by clients from the adjoining campsite. We asked her to reconsider her stance and in an arrogant manner were told take it or leave. We choose the latter and later enjoyed a nice pleasant meal at Chez Mag (see our 4 star revue.) Advice eat at Le Terrasse or Chez Mag you will get a warm welcome there, not a cold shoulder.

This is right next to the camping site Retourtour, and adjacent to the ruined castle , hence the name. A vine covered terrace is perfect for lunch or early evening. We arrived fairly exhausted from a long drive. Portions are generous, the pizza's are excellent (I agree with a previous review about the fabulous bases) and really well topped. Service was good. Nothing in France is cheap these days but it was quite modestly priced and made for a lovely evening.

Repas très agréable malgré la pluie qui est arrivée ! Le personnel était très sympathique et nous a accueillis sans rendez-vous ! Nos plats étaient très bons et l'endroit était agréable ! Une première visite au château en hiver... Ambiance super sympa, feu de bois... De la bonne cuisine et un service très amical et professionnel. Rien à redire... merci Service: Dîner Type de repas: Dîner Prix par personne: 30-40€ Nourriture: 4 Service: 5 Ambiance: 5

Have visited this restaurant every visit to Lamastre. The pizzas are excellent with great bases and topping, fantastic flavour and good service. Nice place to eat inside or out, with good parking opposite the restaurant.
