"The food is delicious and well prepared. I had the guinea fowl (my first time) and my husband had the lamb-filled tomatoes. The restaurant also offers a wide variety of local wines by the glass, which is ideal if you visit over lunch and still have some distance to cover before your next stop."

Le Chat is an excellent restaurant, not to be missed when you are in the area! I went here for lunch with my partner, and even though we were almost an hour late for our reservation, our table was still available and it was no problem at all. We were seated in the garden behind the restaurant, very quiet and comfortable. We choose a two course meal (main + dessert) + coffee for 19,50.They don't have a menu, just a chalk board where you can chose from different dishes for each course. My main was a saphran risotto with veal, very tasty and the meat was very soft and tender. My partner had a tuna steak with veggies, he liked it very much as well. For dessert we both had a white chocolate panna cotta with apricot and crumble. I really liked it, it was totally home made and very original. I also liked the fact that they have many wines, even available by the glass. Prices range from 3,50 - 5 euros per glass, which I think is quite alright for a good wine in a restaurant like this. I would definately recommend this restaurant, it is a bit more expensive (full three course meal + coffee, 24 euros) than other restaurants around, it is absolutely worth it. Top quality fresh ingredients and original dishes, great!

We discovered this restaurant a little while ago, but returned on the spur of the moment for Saturday lunch, knowing it to be interesting food at a fair price. Its location, in a small hamlet edging the commercial zone of Cosne sur Loire and accessible from the Paris -Nevers motorway is unexpected. On this day two other groups had young children with them who, in the French tradition, selected from the adult menu very happily as far as I could see. The menu changes according to season and availability. The amuse bouche to begin the meal were imaginative, and deliciously flavoured. I enjoyed the ravioli with betterave and smoked salmon as entree, while my husband was very happy with his lentils with chorizo, Corsican cheese and other interesting levels of flavouring. Not the typical brasserie offering. As another reviewer has said, the hostess is knowledgeable and professional. Very good wines are on offer, by the glass as well.. My fish course was served with a vegetable mash, and was cooked beautifully. A cheese course is offered, but this day we went straight to the desserts to finish a very satisfying meal of a high standard.

It is sad when you return to an area you have visited before only to find the Restaurant you knew and loved has closed or maddeningly is closed for the holiday - during August! This happened to us while staying near Cosne Cours Sur Loire but our hosts had no hesitation. Go to Le Chat...if you can get a table! We went centre a terre! The Restaurant is in a very undistinguished location but the Maitre d asked and we were kindly given the last remaining table, in the garden at rear. The menu was interesting and the wine list included some new names from the locality.I can simply say the food and the wine and service were excellent and I have no hesitation in commending this little jewel to anyone lost for choice in Cosne itself.

Great little restaurant - simple, elegant, unpretentious but with a real flair for producing great food packed with flavour and contrasting textures like a wonderful tomato and crevette soup with a very light frozen cream accompaniment. Good service, excellent wine list (there's a surprise!) - looked like a locals' favourite.
