We chose this restaurant for it 's peaceful setting and the interesting choices on the menu. It was a Mondaynight and a lot of restaurants are closed although The Maison Rouge down the old was open we preferred this menu. We chose from the set menu and I had local pork rillettes with honey and a small salad garnish which was delicious. My husband enjoyed his goat cheese tart with a tomato sauce, the pastry beautifully crisp and the cheese flavourful. For mains I had lamb cooked pink as I requested and flavourful and tender, a few mixed vegetables and wonderful pommels frites. Il y a beaucoup d'endroits à manger à Chinon et nous avons essayé différents chaque nuit après avoir regardé tous les commentaires et les trouvé très médiocre et certains ont eu un mauvais service aussi. Bien que nous restions à l'hôtel à côté de la Gandoyau nous n'avions pas vu de commentaires. Nous voudrions avoir essayé ici d'abord. C'était un joli cadre romantique (nous nous sommes assis dans la cour comme c'était une nuit chaude) avec la chandelle et le service était excellent. Mon steak de mari dit qu'il était le meilleur qu'il a eu depuis des années et mon bœuf mariné était délicieux. We have eaten here on more than one occasion and it is perfectly situated, if you are staying at Hostellerie Gargantua. The patron is hospitable and welcoming and the service is efficient. As an aperitif the 'aperitif maison ' is recommended. Our starters were okay and the lamb was good, as was the goat 's cheese and the chocolate mousse. Unfortunately the chicken was dry and the vegetables not up to the standard we have enjoyed previously. On this occasion our meal was not as good as those we have had previously. This restaurant 's standards need to improve, if it is to remain competitive, as there are a growing number of other good local restaurants.
Cadre charmant sur une terrasse avec un hôtel-boutique d'un côté et la cuisine de l'autre. J'étais en avance, j'ai commandé une belle bouteille de vin blanc de Loire et j'ai demandé si je pouvais commander de la nourriture plus tard. Aucun problème. Service amical et attentionné. La nourriture n'était pas très sophistiquée mais tout à fait correcte. L'entrée était un plat local mais au final pas très spécial : du lard de porc. La viande était bonne et juteuse. Le steak d'agneau était bon, cependant les accompagnements étaient maigres. Donc, ce n'était pas très bon (4 étoiles) mais mieux que la moyenne (3 étoiles). Recommandé. Réservez une table maintenant
Heureusement réservé ce restaurant sinon je n'aurais pas eu de table. Menu plutôt petit mais assez varié pour choisir. Liste de vins principalement locaux, excellente sélection et prix très raisonnables. Le service était très amical et efficace. Certainement l'une des meilleures expériences à Chinon et fortement recommandée. Le plat de bœuf semblait être leur spécialité et vu le nombre de commandes, on comprend pourquoi. Nous le mettrons certainement sur notre liste pour nos prochaines visites à Chinon.
Notre groupe de six a décidé de dîner ici alors que nous restions à l'hôtel et ne voulait pas aller loin. On avait un bon repas. Le menu n'est pas long mais a eu assez de variété pour même notre mangeur le plus réticent. Le propriétaire du chef fait tout dans ce petit restaurant pittoresque. Il prend votre commande puis va dans la cuisine et le prépare. Son anglais est bon et le menu était disponible en anglais. Je recommande un arrêt ici.
We happened on this restaurant while visiting Chinon. It is several hundred metres on the main street north beyond the centre, but well worth the walk. The large mushroom stuffed with rillette was delicious and the lamb was perfectly cooked and tender. Both the chocolate mousse and tarte aux pommes were very good, and the atmosphere quiet and pleasant. We would certainly choose this restaurant again. Tres bonne qualite-prix!
We had a very nice group meal here of chicken salad. Very quiet for a hot sunny Saturday. We ate indoors which was cooler. There is a very nice outside terrace where bizarrely no photographs can be taken. Good, speedy service and inexpensive. Réservez une table maintenant
