Our lodgings were a couple miles outside of Challans, and we decided to go in for the day to look around and explore this quaint little town. We came across Le Grain de Sel in the middle of town, and were taken by its outside seating in general appearance. What we were yet to discover was a very appealing menu that included a number of seafood dishes. We started with very refreshing salads, followed by a potted seafood dish served with a side of rice and a delectable sauce for my wife, and a unique and tasty twist on fish and chips (French style.) Both dishes were well-prepared, tasty, and reasonably priced. The same went for the house wine from the local region. Across from the post office, there was ample parking in the area and a nice market next door from which we were able to pick up provisions to take back to where we were staying. Although there was a bit of a language barrier due to us not being as up on our French as we should have been, it was all taken in stride and an enjoyable time was had by all. We would easily recommend this dining establishment to others.
