Having been let down by another hotel in the local area which was shut upon our arrival to check in for our pre booked stay, we found Le Grand Hotel a 8pm on a Friday evening. The English speaking staff were professional and friendly, the room which overlooked the river was tastefully decorated with a comfy bed and large bathroom. All spotlessly clean. Having arrived late in the evening we did not use the restaurant, but from what little I saw of the food it looked excellent. We did however have breakfast at the hotel in the morning which was continental style. Not normally my choice, but made a nice change and I thought good value for money at 12 euros each from a buffet selection. Would have liked more coffee, but staff appeared to be a little thin on the ground at that time to ask. Overall a nice stay in a good location with professional friendly staff.
There aren’t many restaurants open on a Monday but fortunately this place is. They do a set menu and you can get 3 courses of very good food for a very reasonable 32 Euros. I ate here twice and both times the food was impressive. The prawns with avocado for starters was very tasty and the bread to accompany it was beautiful. I had the sea bass and also the beef, both of which were excellent. The desserts were good and the cheese selection was also a winner. Service was slow on the Sunday but was noticeably better on our next visit. They had a good wine selection and Leffe on draft which made me happy. Worth a visit.
Nous avons réussi à obtenir une table pour deux sans réservation, mais je conseillerais d'essayer de réserver une table à l'avance car le restaurant est très populaire, et occupé. L'un d'entre nous choisit le repas et l'autre le repas. Les deux avaient un bon choix et la nourriture était extensible. Le personnel était très amical et ne pouvait pas être plus accomodant. Recommandez ce restaurant.
I returned with French friends for an evening meal and found that the standard was still high. The Groupama cycling team was staying at the hotel so the competitors were eating lots of pasta. I chose fish for both starter main courses along with a bottle of Menetou Salon.
