Needing a bite to eat for lunch while visiting Tende, I opted for a quick pizza. I was able to eat outdoors, and I was sufficiently separated from other diners. Unfortunately, nearby building work was very noisy. Service was terribly slow. Once I had been served, I was ignored, despite my efforts to get the attention of any of the wait staff. Eventually I had to go inside to ask for my account and I was asked to wait at the counter while other people were served. I waited for what seemed a long time. Nevertheless, the pizza was huge and delicious.
Yes, it takes over 1 hour to travel to Tende by bus from Menton, via Italy, but for the price is worth it. Visit the museum or walk under the railway line and along a glorious valley and return for a memorable lunch at the Miramonti restaurant.We had the lapin chasseur which was a delight. It was well supported by local workers, always a good sign. A word of warning, this place is on the market so things may change but at the moment is spot-on.
This area of France was once Italy and you see the influence not only in the surnames of the local inhabitants but in the food as well. The menu is quite varied but we were very much in the mood for pizza and we were not disappointed. Mine was a special with lamb (which had been cooked on a skewer) as a topping. The porch is very pleasant place to eat and the staff was attentive and friendly.
After a magnificent bus trip up into the mountains via Italy, what a delight to find a restaurant that servered great lunches. In the mountain atmosphere it was lovely to relax and enjoy a salad of duck and Salmon and at a reasonable price.Definately a place to return to.
