Le Pain De Sucre - Réserver une table

The four of us were hiking Way of St. James and were extremely tired by the time we reached Monistrol, with another 6 miles to go before our intended destination. We happened to be discussing what to do just outside this hotel, when the proprietor Peter popped his head out of the door and chatted with us in English. He made several suggestions and then even made arrangements for our onward journey that turned out to be extremely helpful!! We ended up staying the night at the attached hotel and eating dinner in the restaurant. About the latter: Peter sources as much of his food locally as he can, and it was all delicious and beautifully presented, and very reasonably priced. We KNOW he source...

Nous nous sommes assis à la terrasse pour prendre un verre. L'orangina que nous avons reçue était périmée et la boîte présentait des taches vertes. Nous l'avons rendu et avons reçu des coca-cola à la place. De plus, sans le commander, nous avons reçu de la maison une assiette d'ail et une assiette de tarte au citron. Après le premier tour, ils ne sont plus jamais revenus prendre un autre verre. Nous avons emménagé à l'intérieur pour le dîner. La nourriture n'était pas excellente. Beaucoup d'huile sur la pizza. Nous nous sommes assis dans une pièce remplie d’objets étranges. Encore une fois, ils ne nous ont jamais proposé une autre tournée de boissons.

Okay, on the outside this is only a 2 or 3 star hotel. However, it is more fun staying here than most 4/5 star establishments. This is mostly down to hotel owner/chef Peter Joyce and his able assistant Patrick. Excellent food. Great value. They seem to be always wanting to be the best they can but in a cheerful and personable manner. Many could learn a lot from them.

Nous avions un menu fixe dans le cadre de la visite à pied. Une soupe d'asperges à tomber par terre suivie d'une pâte à la sauce bolognaise et petits légumes sublime. Puis une tarte aux pommes aussi bonne que toutes celles que j'ai eues.

I wish there would be more of these in rural France. Good food, friendly service, attention to simple details. And an amazing apple tart (bravo Patrick !
