Hidden among the narrow streets of Redon, France, we happened upon this tiny little restaurant, which turned out to be a jewel in disguise, in spite of its exterior lack of charm. We weren't in the mood for crepes and were happy to see that Le Poseidon offered a great menu of traditional French cuisine for 16.5 Euros, which included an appetizer, main dish and dessert, with at least three choices for each course. The menu changes daily and the patronne, who runs the front of the house while her son is the chef, was proud to tell us that they purchase all of their food fresh from the local markets, so the menu depends upon what is in season. Our salads (Bel Isloise with smoked herring, salmon, potatoes, tomatoes, lettuce) and le Perigordine (with chicken gizzards, eggs, tomatoes and lettuce) were delicious, and the hint of nutmeg on the potatoes and the savory sauce served with our main dish of fish was superb. For dessert, we decided to go for the dessert crepe with ice cream and chocolate. With a week's notice, the restaurant will also prepare couscous, paella and sauerkraut dishes for six or more people, which you can pick up for a party at home, or eat in the restaurant. We overheard other clients from northern Brittany and Quebec who had received recommendations to eat here. We will definitely return!

The woman who served us here for dinner two nights was nicely accommodating of our limitations requiring lactose- and gluten- free foods. She was delightfully willing to try some basic English. The food was nicely prepared and presented.

A small bistro in a small town that was open on a Monday night, a rare occurence! Lovely waitress, really nice steak. good wine and good value for money! Michelin it ain't but give these people your custom, they deserve it!
