This is the best of the several new eateries that have opened in Fontevraud recently and, unlike some of the more established ones, remains open out of season. Originally a flower shop it has been refurbished to a high standard, the fixtures and fittings being neither basic nor pretentious but just about right. Although the eating area is relatively small the tables are well spaced and the staff will move them around without fuss to accommodate larger parties if needed. The furnishing are quite 'hard' so do not absorb sound so any noise can seem louder than it should.The menu is well balanced and not only includes pizzas and burgers but standard French food as well. The wine list is limited...
We had been told that our little dog would be welcomed at this pizzeria as the owner of the cottage we were staying at had visited with two much larger dogs, who were even given treats by the chef. However when we went in on a midweek evening when only two couples were eating, ie. the place was practically empty (and actually had no atmosphere due to the lack of customers ) we were told that we couldn't stay with our dog. I realise that every restaurant owner can set heir own policy about dogs but it appears that if you are a local they are welcome, but if you are a visitor they aren't - which doesn't make any sense (and even less sensible if you are running a business when surely any income...
After a difficult start when we showed up and it caused the waitress to be flummoxed because their was 5 of us but the table's only sat 4 people, we finally sorted it out, sat and ordered our pizza's. The ingredients were unusual, such as honey, leek and many pizzas had up to 4 different type of cheeses, some had honey and many included fresh creme. We decided to order pizzas, all came with the crispy thin crust. We all agreed despite the unusual ingredients we all liked our pizza of choice. So if you are in town to tour the Abbaye and want a quick, unusual take on the pizza, check them out.
We went here to keep the kids happy and this pizzeria provides a French twist on the traditional pizza's with some combinations I had not come across before - mussels on on a for example. Pizzas were large and didn't always fit to the norm - since when does a margarita contain ham? Salads OK, deserts simple but very tasty. Quite expensive for what it was but the only alternative to traditional dining locally. Open Sunday. Réservez une table maintenant
Great pizzas - different but they so work. 1 of 3 restaurants open on a rainy Wednesday evening, and they took us in 8 min. before they stopped serving. Kind, gracious service and the best wine/pizza in France. And dessert! Order the coffee/ trio sample and make sure your fellow traveler gets one too! My daughter and I had different mousse and they were equally amazing. Love this restaurant and we will be back someday!!!
After arriving for our overnight stay in Fontevraud LAbbaye, we went into this restaurant for a fairly late lunch. We were greeted by a friendly and professional staff member, who quickly checked whether the plat du jour was still available. It was, and we both sat down to a lightly curried pork dish with puréed carrots, which was delicious. A very enjoyable start to our stay.
