L'Echiquier - Réserver une table

Wanted dinner in Sedan, but not knowing the town, randomly approached a couple in a bar for their recommendation. One of them had a card for this restaurant in her bag and so we went. What a lucky find! The restaurant hides itself behind a closed front door and a closed window and we would have walked past it without a second glance. It appears to be a family affair with Madame front of house and Monsieur the chef. The menu was extensive and the wine list reasonable. Three starters, mains and desserts later, we would particularly recommend the cod, the foie gras and the isles flottant. These courses, plus two bottles of wine and three coffees came to 120 Euros, less than we had spent on dinn...

This restaurant over shadowed by the Fort walls should be on the visitors must list but you may need to book. We arrived on a Monday night to eat in the restaurant section and the room quickly filled. We selected €42 menu and were not disappointed and in fact found the serves more than adequate. A pleasing feature of the menu is the cheese selection.

We visited on 14 Juillet, when many other places were shut for the holiday. There are two establishments in one the restaurant downstairs, and the cheaper brasserie upstairs. We ate upstairs, a decent not too expensive menu and good wine by the glass pichet. Good, friendly service, nice food, a pleasant, light decor and ambience. Nothing not to like.

Très bonne surprise ce restaurant. Non seulement une superbe vue sur le château, mais aussi une cuisine et un service excellents. Menu très savoureux et plats à la carte. Les carpaccio sont incroyables comme le reste. Et personnel très sympathique. Soirée au top !

Excellente soirée, bonne nourriture et boissons, personnel sympathique et serviable, je reviendrai. Bon menu. Très proche du Fort.
