While it may NOT feature as a top holiday destination, Tarbes is an attractive city, capital of the Bigorre since the 9th century, close to some fine ski resorts and also near some of the toughest Pyrenean climbs that the Tour de France has to...offer. The area has a rich gastronomic heritage : Foie gras, Bayonne ham, Roquefort, Agen prunes, Cassoulet, Garbure, Tarbes beans etc etc. The sublime Armagnac is from these parts, the powerful Madiran red wine and the sublime white Jurancon wines come from nearby Pau. L'Epicerie is located in a historic district close to the Cathedral and has a bustling very attractive terasse. Service is impeccable and the food is fine and reasonably priced. The s...

the big problems with the restaurants of central tarbes you will find (the one kind of street system) and then it is the close impossibility to park somewhere near. that had to be the exception that was a bay 20 meters outside the birthplace of marechal fried. so to eat, first we were not sure whether they were open, but initial language problems were quickly overcome and substantial and well cooked appetizers and netzens followed that were really enjoyed. the service was very competent. in the middle of the main course the lights were overdimmed to lift the blackness, but a few seconds later and too much restless normal service was quickly restored. the price was in order and everything in...

Firstly the reception, not very friendly, the owner a former rugby player treat us like he did his opponents on the rugby field. And ultimately the food quality, which does not correspond to the price. Poor quality food tasted as the fish stayed out of...the fridge for a wile), badly cooked and very greasy. I refused one of the meals for bad taste and extremely greasy and at 1st they say the kitchen is closed 30 min before it should) them after 15 min the waitress come back with the owner and tried to convince me to accept that order which I didn't. After another few minutes they brought me something else. I would not recommend and I would never come back.

I went here for a farewell evening meal with two friends. We all agreed that it was good. The entree with Terrine, pate de campagne and other charcuterie was really nice with a nice rouge to compliment it. I would go again just for that...alone.
