Don't go for the fish soup. What I thought were large pieces of fish, we're actually unfrozen squares of fish soup!Half way through my food, my meal was interrupted as i was given a soup bowl and a ladel along with a quiet apology. It seems I'd been inadvertently eating from the serving bowl as this was all I had (where I thought this was a new serving method, it was simple a lack of service from the staff).I also believe that when in a foreign country, those attempting the language should be encouraged. It was disheartening that any French attempt was met with an English response in a hard to decipher accent. Poor show.Prices reasonable.Nice outside sunny area. Put down to experience.
Everything within their control they managed to mess up.Slow for a greeting, slow to seat us, slow to take an order...and so it continued. Rudeness shown by responding in English to a fluent French speaker, served fish soup still with frozen bits in it, when it was eventually reheated, ten minutes later they decided to bring us a bowl!I am not sure what the other places to eat are like in Morzine however this place has dreadful. The first time I have ever failed to leave a tip I was so disgusted.
I've been to L'Etale every year for 8 years and I can honestly say that it's like two different restaurants depending on where you sit! The restaurant downstairs is our favourite - it's atmospheric, cavern like and cozy in the candlelight. When we sit upstairs, particularly in the outside conservatory areas, you feel like you could be anywhere and it's not as special. Start off with the onion soup which is the best in Morzine and a meal in itself - and the spaghetti carbonara is stunning
Admittedly we were a group of 25, so we were ushered downstairs to a lively room which was quite dark and smelled of gas from the retro gas lights on the tables. With kids on one table and adults another our teenagers were not given good service and struggled for drinks and attention. Overall the food was good and not too pricey but next time would look for somewhere better suited to a large mixed age group

We enjoyed 3 lovely lunches at " L'etale". Really good food with a great menu to choose from. There was also a very reasonable children's menu which was helpful. The staff were very friendly. The portions are huge so I would suggest not having a starter. You won't be disappointed.
Pire picanha jamais goûtée ; j'avais demandé à point. Elle était crue au début et encore froide au milieu. Après être retournée en cuisine, elle est revenue bien cuite ; et très très coriace en conséquence...
Menu alpin agréable avec viande, tartiflette, pierre chaude... J'attendais mieux dans l'ensemble, même si certains plats étaient très bons comme le pluma de porc et l'entrecôte.
Excellent restaurant pour les groupes. Large choix de menu avec des plats traditionnels et "internationaux". Légère confusion avec la commande. Excellents desserts.

Another recommendation & only just getting opened back up for the summer season. We enjoyed tasty pizzas from the extensive menu; great choice of puddings too.
