"The main dish with pork was way over cooked and everything but tender... my wife had the veal which was very fat and came only with a few vegetables, no potatoes nor other carbohydrates. Fine to lose weight, not too good for an evening at the restaurant. The table besides us complained about a tasteless cassoulet ... 4 dissatisfied customers."

We ate here twice in large groups. We had high hopes as local friends had recommended it. But although some dishes were acceptable, too many were poorly conceived or executed. My merlan (fish) was seriously overcooked, and the cold leeks with poached egg was simply odd. On my first visit I had braised vegetables also with poached egg and that didn't work either. My wife had a maigret (sic) a duck breast which was completely tasteless. The service was friendly but too slow and we were all seriously underwhelmed. They serve lampreys which is unusual, and I can't complain about them. But they are an acquired taste which I failed to acquire. Wines were not too pricey with many local ones.

We found this restaurant while visiting Auvillar. It was early afternoon and I asked what time they started serving dinner, and they told me - and also told me I needed to make a reservation. When we got to the restaurant it was empty except for one other table!!! I really really don't like being played like that by a disingenuous host, but to be fair the meal we had, the plat du jour, was very good. The main course included lentils, chicken and sausage and was delicious. Service was fine. But it was a lonely meal with only one other table in the restaurant (they were staying in the hotel).

This restaurant does not indulge in the theatricalities of some of its nearby rivals but modestly produces food of superb quality that is easily puts it amongst the best in the region. The á la carte menu and menu du jour have enough variety to suit all tastes and they are served in an unfussy calm and spacious dining room by friendly, professional and unobtrusive staff. The wine list is well chosen and of good quality though the wines are not expensive.

sorry to see poor reviews but everyone is entitled to their opinion. however we have to disagree with the poor reviews. In a region that is renowned for duck and pork the chief was more than happy to produce a vegetarian meal for my wife which was not the standard omelet and frites. The food was cooked to order so don't expect to be in and out in 30 minutes. Not cheep but good, 3 people, 3 courses from the A l carte menue, champagne and wine 140 euro's
