One was closed and the other, "Cottage Garden Nursery"- more a bric-a-brac store with café and garden nursery and gift store and ladies apparel, was open. The Lord Stanley is one of a number of inner-city hotels that have struggled over the last 10-15 years to remain both viable and relevant to changing demographics and customer expectations. Although locals, my wife and I had not dined there for about five years before we had lunch there earlier this week. We were very impressed with not only the decor, but also the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff. The venue has ample dining space inside and out. They have a dedicated car park so parking is no problem. The atmosphere is very casual as you would expect from a hotel. The staff are warm and friendly and the service was prompt.They have a good choice on the menu and offer lunch specials as well as a bistro selection and prices are reasonable. They have a good selection of wines and of course, beer.We were impressed with both the quality and quantity of the meals. The ingredients were fresh and even the greens in the chicken wrap were nice and crisp.Will definitely come back again.
Turned up for my step dads birthday and the restaurant was completely empty, in hindsight we should have left straight away. There was only one waitress on and she looked like she was trying to keep busy, but wasn't bothered to clear our plates. When ordering our meals, apparently they ran out of creamy mash they have on their "sides" section of the menu so I had a dry potato rosti and a thick, disgusting bernaise sauce with my dry (non) crispy skin salmon. Overall, pretty boring and bland. Definitely not worth the $70 we paid.

We visit this hotel restaurant frequently with my father-in-law. Despite being in his nineties, he still enjoys a good steak and a good beer - both of which are provided by the Lord Stanley. The hotel provides easy walker/wheelchair access - for either inside or courtyard dining - and the friendly staff accommodate his special needs. Our visits are always very easy and enjoyable.
Without doubt the WORST meal I have had in Brisbane! That they can charge top pub prices and present low standard offerings should be against the law. I ordered Barramundi that must have been imported and then fried direct from the freezer. The accompanying chips and salad were dour and unimaginative. I didn't even bother trying to eat it. Avoid unless you need to vomit

Seriously poor quality food and a restaurant (very loosely used term here!) that isn't prepared for people to arrive at dinner time on a Sunday
