AN EXCELLENT MENU DU JOUR ON THE ROUTE DES GRANDES ALPES When you are tired after a flight into Geneva and are making your way to the lovely village of Morzine in the French Alps, you may have had enough of twisting around the mountains and think that it would be a good idea to stop for lunch before you get to your destination. The Route des Grandes Alpes is so beautiful that you need to stop just to give time to let the scenery sink into your mind. There is a small village along the way which is not normally known as a tourist attraction. There you will find a real French restaurant where local people eat their lunch. It is called Los a Moelle in the village of Taninges . It’s difficult to see its sign from the main road. So look out for the village green on your left and the War Memorial-a World War soldier. Almost opposite you will find the restaurant. When we called in this summer we were immediately greeted by the owner-a lovely lady in a long white dress. She pointed us towards the restaurant area, where a cartwheel hung above us holding lights. On the wall was a halter and old skis. As with most French bars the tables were large and the ladderback chairs were very comfortable. What we noticed when we first went in was the incredibly inexpensive cost of a 3 course lunch with an alcoholic drink and coffee thrown in. The Menu du Jour was only €14. In Morzine it would have cost more than double the price, so it is well worth going out of the town sometimes and finding such a pleasant and authentic little place. We went to the Buffet first of all, resplendent with every sort of Hors d’oeuvres and salad. My son-in-law jumped in and filled his plate 3 times. There was no limit. We then followed with Saute de Veau. This tender calf had been slowly cooked and came with rice and a carrot purée. The service was excellent and we were offered a home-made Kiwi tart to finish our meal. The locals looked at the delight on our faces. They did not realise that we had found a hidden treasure in the midst of a terrible situation where the pound against the euro had fallen dramatically because of Brexit, and that was before it had even happened! Everywhere else was so expensive in the Alps.

3 couples went for casual lunch from the 14.90 e menu of the day. Small but tasty buffet of entrees Men had faux fillets ladies veal stew enjoyed by all . Choice of 2 deserts again enjoyed, water bread pitcher of red and rose wine and coffee included. Very good value for just under 90e for 6 people. Nice atmosphere friendly service from waitress and chef. First time here but will come again.

Set menu is a great deal. When pizzas are being served they are really good with a great thin base. Friendly service which can be a little slow when very busy otherwise all good value for money.

Very friendly staff. The food is good enough but without extra merits. You would expect “ l’os a moelle” but it’s not on the menu..
