From start to finish this was a disaster but having not seen family for a while and wanting to celebrate a special birthday together we waited patiently at our prebooked table of 14 to be even offered a drink. After 40 minutes without a drink and asking many times can we order a drink members of our party went to stand at the bar to be served. Became clear only two staff on and one member was more worried about his phone than the people in the restaurant. I have been to this restaurant a number of times over the last 15 years to celebrate my birthday. Previously I have always had a lovely time eating here. Saturday night sadly was the first time that I left the restaurant feeling that I will not go back there again. Partly because of the food, which was still very good, but the amount you got had definitely gone down. An extremely disorganized restaurant experience. We waited for several minutes before being acknowledged and seated. The service was slow and we had to flag down the waitress to take our order. The drinks arrived quickly, but it took 25 minutes for the wrong starter to be brought to our table. After informing the staff of the mistake, the correct starter was finally brought out after another 10 minutes. My main course (chicken curry) arrived cold with a film on top, indicating it had been sitting in the kitchen for a while. Firstly the telephone number did not work and I had to book via email super quick response from the team, so cannot knock them for that. Secondly,the menu I viewed online is absolutely nothing like what was in the restaurant (very basic!!!! However, when we sat down for food it all went downhill. I enjoyed the duck. But that really was it. My partner asked for chopped chillis on the side to add to his dish but they looked at us like we had asked for caviar and said no. Odd considering chillis are in most dishes. I don’t know where to start…. I came with a group for a Christmas meal and our reservation was for 5:30pm and we were not served until 8pm!!!! And the manager was rude and condescending. Some of our group tables were served hours before us and we pre ordered our food weeks prior to us coming and yet still we had to wait hours to be served. And the worst part is some of our group had to help serve our group food to their tables as they were not bringing out the food swiftly so we were also waitressing for the evening!! And they added service charge!!! It was the worst experience I have had in a restaurant. And I would not advise anyone to go to the Lotus Floating disaster.
If I could give 0- I would! Was taken here as a treat for Mother’s Day. The service was a shambles. Took over an hour to get part of what we ordered. The noodles never came!!! We called the attention of the waitress and mentioned our food was getting cold waiting for noodles. She went and never came back with an update. Needless to say we spoke to the manager and only paid for the drinks we had. Left hungry to go home and order a Chinese takeaway instead. I’d come to this restaurant a few times in the past and service was slow but at least the food came. I will never come back to this restaurant. Absolutely disgusted.
Recently, I decided to give Lotus another chance after a few months had passed. I was pleased to see that the menu, although still limited, had a great selection. The service was attentive, and most importantly, the food was fresh and flavorful. The prawn toast and spring rolls were fresh and crispy, with minimal grease. The rice was delicious, the dishes were hot, and for four starters, rice, a main course, wine, tea for two, and service, the bill came to £52 for both of us. The atmosphere upstairs on the boat was lovely, and I hope that Lotus will soon regain its former popularity. Welcome back, Lotus!
We booed this based on our last experience a couple of years back, look at how much it's changed! We booked a table and tried all of the possible entrances to this Chinese restaurant and all of them were locked. We all stood there in the freezing cold waiting for someone (staff) to come and unlock the doors even though it was way past 12.00pm (opening time). The staff looked straight at us but did not come to not unlock the doors so we waited some more in the freezing cold. We had no choice but to leave after a while. Do not recommend at all!
I had the worst dining experience ever on this boat. The appetizers were decent, but the main courses were awful. When my wife complained about the food, they only offered to remove the service charge. Looking back, I regret paying anything considering how much food we didn't eat. I will never go back to this boat and I hope that this review reaches those considering dining here.
